No dress code for public at all Malaysian government offices

KUALA LUMPUR — Putrajaya does not enforce dress codes on members of the public visiting government department and will entertain even those who are dressed “inappropriately”, Ms Azalina Othman Said said today (Nov 5).

Controversies including dress codes occurred this year when Malaysians were refused service or entry at the Road Transport Department, the Selangor state secretariat, a public hospital and even the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

You can tell hospitals this again and again and again, till kingdom comes. But will they listen to anyone?

Clinics and hospitals must give treatment regardless of dress

KUALA LUMPUR: There were no instructions given to government clinics and hospitals to refuse treatment to patients wearing shorts, said Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya.

He told reporters at a blood donation event organised by Malay Colleges Old Boys’ Association (MCOBA) today that it was the function of clinics and hospitals to give treatment, regardless of what the patient wears.

This follows an incident last week where two government clinics and a hospital refused to give a child treatment because his mother wore shorts. “There has never been any directive to deny treatment based on dressing. This is just the clinic’s sentiments.

Patients just have to dress decently enough to be in public,” he said. Hilmi added that dressing was not a condition for a patient to receive treatment.

A child was denied treatment at 3 different govt clinics as his mother and aunt were denied entry as both wore shorts.

Finally, they went to a private clinic.

I suppose government clinics are NOT government offices…

MCA: Probe incident on boy denied medical treatment in Johor

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA has called on the Health Ministry to investigate over reports that a toddler was denied treatment at two government clinics and a hospital because his mother was deemed to be “inappropriately dressed”.

Its vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun (pix) urged the Ministry to take appropriate action, adding that the incident was clearly a case of medical neglect.

“These ‘Little Napoleons’ should take note of the Parliamentary reply by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Azalina Othman that Putrajaya does not enforce dress codes on members of the public visiting government departments,” said Chew, who is also MCA’s social development committee chairman.

Chew asked if a rape victim would be considered “inappropriately dressed” if she was sent to a clinic or hospital for treatment.

She reminded medical practitioners that their primary task was to treat patients and help them recover, not finding fault in their dressing.

“Uphold the Hippocratic Oath to treat all patients irrespective of how their attendants maybe attired, and be devoted towards healing and upholding ethical standards,” Chew said in a statement Friday.

Boy denied treatment because mum’s pants too short, say parents

A 2-year-old boy was allegedly denied treatment at two government clinics and a hospital because the pants his mother and aunt were wearing were deemed too short, reported China Press.

The boy had cut his finger last Saturday about noon and was rushed to a Klinik 1Malaysia in Saleng, Johor Baru.

However, his mother was apparently told that her pants were too short and that she had to cover up with a sarong.

The boy’s aunt, who was also wearing a pair of short pants, was denied entry into the clinic, the report said.

The mother claimed that they waited for about two hours but the boy did not get any proper treatment.

They then took him to another Klinik 1Malaysia in Bandar Indahpura, Kulai, but the boy’s mother and aunt were apparently denied entry again due to the length of their pants.

They then rushed the boy to the Kulai Hospital but claimed they were again denied entry for the same reason, forcing them to go to a private clinic nearby, where he boy was finally treated. – November 6, 2015.

Malaysian minister says govt offices don’t turn public away for dressing ‘inappropriately’

KUALA LUMPUR — Putrajaya does not enforce dress codes on members of the public visiting government department and will entertain even those who are dressed “inappropriately”, Ms Azalina Othman Said said today (Nov 5).

In a written reply to Member of Parliament Dr Makin Marcus Mojigoh, the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said that only civil servants are subjected to dress-code rulings.

“Therefore the public can wear attire that are suited to their culture and eastern values when dealing in government offices.

“However the government will still extend its services to those who dress inappropriately,” the de facto parliamentary affairs minister said.

She said that government department heads may, however, advise the public to wear suitable attire when visiting their offices, but did not elaborate on what this entailed.

It’s ‘cover up your arms’ at Ipoh City Council

The Ministry of Defence wanted the reporter to cover up!

She later raised the issue with the deputy minister, who laughed it off.  WE WANT TO KNOW WHO THAT DEPUTY MINISTER IS! Please name him!

Reporter denied entry over dressing

KUALA lUMPUR: I went to the Defence Ministry (Mindef) in Ampang to cover a presentation of Hari Raya goodies to the armed forces by the Prime Minister’s wife, an event that was also attended by the Defence Minister and his deputy.

I was dressed in a simple black-and-white piece with short sleeves and a hemline that ended just above my knees.

Despite what I thought to be decent attire, I was denied entry at the guardhouse.

At the counter to register my vehicle, an official told me to step back several times.

I took a few small steps back until he told me: “Please step back further, I need to see what you are wearing.”

He then said I would not be allowed in because my knees were showing.

I protested by saying that I had covered Mindef events before, wearing both casual clothes such as T-shirts as well as in similar dresses, but the protest was to no avail.

I also told him that I was a reporter and needed to get in to cover the event. He and a female staff member said they would check with the officials inside the building.

They returned to say there was no response and instructed me to sit down and wait.

At this point, another military policeman politely “assessed” my outfit, saying that I had violated the dress code.

I said there should be consistency when enforcing the dress code, not as and when they like.

As I didn’t want to miss my assignment, I went to retrieve a long skirt that was kept in my car for precisely this reason – overzealous dress code enforcers.
