Perkasa urges PAS to start petition for Act 355

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 — Perkasa has urged PAS to start a petition to get public support for the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendment) 1965 Bill, or better known as Act 355.

Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali said getting signatures for the petition was better than organising a rally in the federal capital.

“Getting the signatures is better, more organised, and shows that PAS is sincere in fighting for what is provided in Islam and not for its political agenda,” he told a press conference here, today.

Ibrahim was commenting on the proposal by PAS to hold a rally to explain to the public, especially the Muslims on the changes in Act 355.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police would allow “Rally 355” planned at Dataran Merdeka on Feb 18 if the organiser abides by all the conditions of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. — Bernama

PAS today announced that it is cooperating with Malay pressure group Perkasa towards Muslim unity in the country.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said that the two have agreed on two matters of immediate mutual interest which are to condemn Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) and the usage of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) against former Umno man Khairuddin Abu Hassan and his lawyer Matthias Chang.

PAS and Perkasa find common cause

KUALA LUMPUR: PAS and Perkasa seem to have mended fences over political differences, meeting officially for the first time on Tuesday.

“PAS is open to everyone. Including NGOs and Perkasa. This is a good development. We have discussed many issues. We agreed on the three issues. There are other matters that we have discussed and we will come up with a statement on that soon.

“For the sake of the nation and people, we will be with Perkasa to fight for the common interests that we have,” PAS Secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan told reporters on Tuesday.

Takiyuddin also said that both groups have agreed on a two-way relationship to discuss issues related to the county but stressed that they will not form a political coalition because Perkasa is an NGO while PAS is a political party.

‘We will arrange programs and activities and we will invite Perkasa to come. If Perkasa organises any activities, we will receive invitations from them,” he said.

He also jokingly said that Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali, who was a PAS member before might rejoin the party to which Ibrahim retorted, “Belum lagi (Not yet)”.

Ibrahim stressed that Perkasa is an NGO and will come forward if there are any issues that affects the county.

“I want to say that we are a real independent NGO.”

Ibrahim also said that he has buried the hatchet with PAS.

“We had a frank, very open and friendly discussion. Our feud has ended. We are now zero-zero.”
