‘Red shirts’ at Dataran were from Umno

A boisterous group clad in red T-shirts that appeared at Dataran Merdeka close to midnight were from Federal Territories Umno Youth, said its leader Mohd Razlan Rafii.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Mohd Razlan said that his group had nothing to do with Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Yunos.
Jamal had initially vowed to rally 30,000 people to face off against Bersih 4, which took place over the weekend.
However, Jamal backed down after he was ordered to do so by the police.
Mohd Razlan said the purpose of his group was to mark Merdeka Day at Dataran Merdeka, but they were denied entry by the police.
“At the stroke of midnight every Merdeka Day eve, our national anthem had always been sung at Dataran Merdeka.
“Last night was a black day for the country because Dataran Merdeka was no longer free, as the national anthem was not played,” he said.

‘Red shirts’ cancel showdown with Bersih 4 this weekend
The red-shirted anti-Bersih group has called of their march just hours after defiantly vowing to go ahead with their protest against the Bersih 4 rally this weekend.
The decision was made after the group’s leader, – Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Mohd Yunos – met Kuala Lumpur police chief Tajuddin Mohd Isa and Dang Wangi police chief Zainol Abu Samah this evening.
“We had our statements taken by the police and discussed with the Kuala Lumpur CPO and the Dang Wangi OCPD.
“We also heard a briefing by the police on their preparations should Bersih 4 be held.
“As such, we have made a decision to cancel our plans to hold the ‘Bersih 4 Keamanan’ (Bersih 4 Peace) this weekend because we fully trust the police,” he told reporters outside the Dang Wangi district police station.

YOURSAY ‘The use of parang is an obvious threat and a clear invitation to violence.’
After martial arts display, anti-Bersih group to train with parang
6th Generation Immigrant: This is interesting and it shall be fun to see how the IGP (inspector-general of police) would react to honest citizens when compared to these ‘red shirts’ ruffians.
I do know there are laws in the country against such obvious threats – the use of ‘parang’ (machete) in this case is a clear case of ‘intend’, even though the crime has not been committed yet.
It’s like walking with a loaded gun in Dataran Merdeka. Honest citizens have been remanded for lesser offences. Drivers have been arrested for keeping a parang in their cars for safety concerns.
Truly Umno has lost its plot as well as the respect and support of citizens of Malaysia.
Anonymous$&@?: Indeed, when a person has a parang in the boot of his car, he would be arrested for carrying a weapon.
Now that these hot-blooded individuals have publicly declared that they would use machetes and swords to ‘defend’ themselves, do they mean that they will be carrying these weapons to Kuala Lumpur on Aug 29?
If PDRM neglects to check against them for carrying weapons on that day, then the police force has failed to carry out its duty to prevent bloodshed from happening.
…
Kangkung: Imagine what would happen if Bersih 4 supporters were to prepare for the day by practising martial arts with parang and issuing threats. Would the police be quietly enjoying the scene?
Ren Ai: If the yellow shirts did the same thing, PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) would have a field day whacking them.
Bamboo: This is certainly an intimidation of Bersih 4 rally-goers. It’s truly unfair when those aligned to Umno are allowed to do anything, while students at the peaceful gathering in Parliament were arrested. We really need to vote out this Umno-led BN government.
The Mask: So Mr IGP, now you know who will be bringing weapons to Bersih rally. So don’t you dare accuse the Bersih participants of this act.

Police probe anti-Bersih ‘red shirts’ after self-defence skills
PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating the anti-Bersih group whose members gave a demonstration of their self-defence skills in anticipation of possible violence during this weekend’s rally.
Police said the group’s organisers, including Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Jamal Yunos, have been asked to give their statements at 3pm Thursday at the Dang Wangi station.
Jamal told The Star Online that he would first give a press conference at Dataran Merdeka before heading to the Dang Wangi station to be interviewed by the police.

IGP warns ‘red shirts’ against criminal intimidation
IGP @KBAB51 warns ‘red shirts’ against criminal intimidation https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/310038

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has issued a stern warning to all quarters not to promote violence, and this includes the anti-Bersih group.
“Although we have declared the Bersih rally as illegal, we will not tolerate acts of criminal intimidation by anyone against those who participate,” he said.
“Nobody should take the law into their own hands,” he told Malaysiakini.
Khalid was responding to news reports that the anti-Bersih group would be training with machetes and swords as preparation to counter the overnight rally slated for Aug 29-30.
The group leader, Umno division chief Jamal MD Yunos, said the training is for self-defense and not to incite violence.
However, Khalid said such acts could be construed as criminal intimidation, and the police would not hesitate to take action against those who gather on the streets with weapons.
“Why train with swords if you do not intend to bring them on that day? If that is the case, then the police would arrest those found to be in possession of weapons.
“We would not tolerate any group that threatens security and public order,” he cautioned.

A coalition of NGOs headed by Jamal Md Yunos today held a martial arts demonstration in Kuala Lumpur in a show of strength ahead of the Bersih 4 rally.
…
According to The Rakyat Post, Jamal said the groups would ensure that 30,000 people in red shirts will be at hand if the yellow-shirt clad Bersih 4 supporters turned rowdy.
“If Bersih 4 organisers follow through with what they said, which was to have at least 100,000 people attending the illegal gathering, then the authorities will definitely have problem guaranteeing the safety of all the yellow participants and us.
“We won’t initiate any violence, but if the yellow team does, then our people dressed in red will be able to defend ourselves,” said Jamal.
