Rafidah: I don’t buy Zahid’s conspiracy theory

August 17, 2015

It’s voters, not conspirators, who’ll decide BN’s fate, says the former minister.

PETALING JAYA: Former Wanita Umno leader Rafidah Aziz has told the Najib administration to stop coming up with theories of conspiracies against it and to concentrate instead on governing well.

In her latest Facebook posting, Rafidah said she didn’t buy Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi’s story about a prominent Umno veteran conspiring to oust Prime Minister Najib Razak.

She said it would be of no benefit to anyone in Umno or Barisan Nasional to oust the government.

“It would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face,” she added.

Rafidah, who served as Minister of International Trade and Industry from 1987 to 2000, told Umno leaders to be cognisant that party members were watching their every move, that “certain quarters” would “certainly exploit the situation” and that voters would make their decision at the next general election based on what they would have observed from the “political histrionics” played out by the people currently in power.

Addressing “all quarters” in Umno and BN, she warned them against moves calculated with an eye towards short-term benefits.

DPM claims BN leader plotting to topple govt, but it’s not

8:17 AM, August 17, 2015

KUALA LUMPUR — Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday (Aug 16) confirmed that UMNO deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin is not the leader he had referred to as plotting to topple the government.

Without naming anyone, he said the person responsible was a senior Barisan Nasional leader, who was quite “elderly”, but “his ambition was never small”.

He said the leader in question could deny it, but “siapa makan cili, tentu rasa pedas” (Malay proverb, literal translation: Whoever eats chilli, will feel the heat).

Mr Zahid said he was defending Mr Muhyiddin because he and Perak chief minister Zambry Abd Kadir were personally close with Mr Muhyiddin.

“I am defending him because, I too had fallen in politics once and so did Zambry.

“Now Muhyiddin has fallen, but we will not step on him,” he told the audience at the UMNO Lumut division delegates meeting tonight in Seri Manjung, Perak last night.

The Prime Minister arrived at his Duta residence at about 7.50pm after opening the Gerik Umno division meeting.

The media were informed that no visitors were expected for the rest of the night.

They had also staked out at Seri Perdana in Putrajaya.

‘Claim of plot created by Zahid himself’

PETALING JAYA: The Deputy Prime Minister’s claim of a plot to topple the Government is Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s plan all along, says Datuk Mahfuz Omar.

The PAS information chief believes this to be the case as he had no knowledge of any statutory declaration being prepared to topple the Government.

He is shocked to hear of Dr Ahmad Zahid’s allegation.

“I can say that a lot of us in the Opposition are equally shocked,” he said.

“I believe that this is a self-created issue by Zahid himself,” he added.

“I believe he (Dr Ahmad Zahid) has purposely made this up to send a signal to the party leadership that Umno and Barisan Nasional can lose its position if Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak remains as Prime Minister.”

Dr Ahmad Zahid was aware of how much Najib’s position as the Prime Minister now depended on his (Zahid’s) own actions, Mahfuz said.

“If Zahid leaves this matter alone now, he will never be able to surpass Najib and take over as premier,” said Mahfuz. “He also cannot wait until the next general election, so this could be his attempt.”

Distraction tactics, opposition says after Zahid Hamidi lifts lid on ‘SD’ ouster plot against BN

BY BOO SU-LYN

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — Opposition lawmakers denied today Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s claim of them conspiring with an Umno leader to overthrow the Barisan Nasional (BN) regime through the “backdoor”.

Lawmakers from all three parties — DAP, PKR and PAS — approached by Malay Mail Online for comment refuted the Umno vice-president’s claim that 87 opposition MPs had been approached to sign a statutory declaration (SD) and move a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in Parliament.

They further described the allegation as an attempt to divert public attention from a mystery RM2.6 billion “donation” into the latter’s personal bank accounts ahead of Election 2013 and investigations into suspected financial improprieties of 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

“This is Umno infighting. We do not want to be dragged into this,” PKR’s Sim Tze Tzin told Malay Mail Online when contacted.

“The truth is this is Umno distraction tactics. They want to avoid answering the RM2.6 billion scandal,” the Bayan Baru MP said, adding that he was never approached to sign the purported SD.

Sim was referring to the RM2.6 billion that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said had been deposited into Najib’s personal bank account from unidentified donors from the Middle East.

His allies from PAS and DAP, Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua similarly voiced surprise at the minister’s conspiracy theory with an unidentified Umno leader when contacted by Malay Mail Online.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng went further, describing the SD plot as a figment of Zahid’s imagination and called the Umno vice-president’s bluff.

“Ask Zahid to name the Umno MP. As home minister he should bravely identify him. Why so shy to do so?” the Bagan MP challenged.

“Failing to do so, suspicion will arise. That it is another figment of his fertile imagination to distract attention from 1MDB and Donationgate,” Lim told Malay Mail Online in a text message.

DPM dares mystery man in putsch plot to deny it

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has challenged the Umno leader he claimed was planning to “topple the government”, to deny it publicly.

“If he has guts, this person must deny it through the press,” said Ahmad Zahid.

Speaking at the Klang Umno division annual general meeting today, Ahmad Zahid said that the plot and its plotter was real.

“I know this thing is happening because as Home Minister,  I receive information and I will also find out who is behind it.

“I don’t have to expose the person as this will reveal itself,” he said, according to Bernama.

Earlier today, Ahmad Zahid had claimed that this mystery person was attempting was “topple the government” by getting MPs from both sides of the divide to sign a seven-page statutory declaration.

Once that is done, the MPs will declare that they have the majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

I’d be stupid to topple BN government, says Muhyiddin

Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin denied that his raising questions on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal is an attempt to topple party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak and remove Barisan Nasional from power.

“I would be stupid to push for the downfall of the BN government,” he said following claims that he is now being watched and tracked for everything he said since his ouster from the Cabinet.

Muhyiddin said it would be foolish of him to try topple a government he helped build for over 30 years.

Addressing the Semporna Umno division meeting today, the former deputy prime minister told the delegates he is still an Umno loyalist and would continue to build and strengthen the party.

Raising questions on the debt-riddled 1MDB could not be construed as disloyalty, he said.

Umno leader behind plot to topple government, says Zahid

An Umno leader is behind a plot to topple the government with the support of opposition lawmakers, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.

The Umno vice-president said that as home minister, he had learned that they were preparing statutory declarations (SD) ‎to remove the government.

“There is an effort to obtain SDs among the opposition lawmakers and to pull in Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmakers to topple the government.

“I received this information from very trusted sources. This effort is going on… The strange thing is that it is led by an Umno, BN member,” Zahid said when officiating the annual general meeting of Umno’s Ampang division today at Dewan Dato’ Setia Mufti Shuib in Kuala Lumpur.

However, he did not reveal the identity of the Umno leader, saying it would be “exposed on its own”.

Zahid said the movement was ongoing, and a lawyer was already preparing to present a seven-page memorandum made up of yellow paper, with the SDs attached, to show that they represented the majority. –
