As the Selangor MCA Youth election campaign heats up, Jessie Ooi – who is making a bid for the top post – has denied claims that she has received financial backing from party president Dr Chua Soi Lek.
Ooi, once dubbed ‘Miss Tow Truck’, said people have been calling to ask if she did get RM200,000 from Chua and also asked for a share of the money.
At a press conference today, she described this as a “mean, unfair and dirty tactic” against her.
The contest for the Selangor Youth chief’s post on Saturday will see a straight fight between Ooi and Chong Sin Woon, the incumbent state MCA education bureau head.
The posts of Youth chief in the MCA are open to both men and women.
Chong has been reported to have said that some state-level party leaders have interfered in the election process, but he has not named anyone.
Ooi countered today that there was no interference with her team.

KUALA LUMPUR: Jessie Ooi is hoping to make history in MCA by being the party’s first female state MCA Youth chief.
This is the first time, since its inception in 1958, that the wing has opened its door to females under 40 after amending its constitution.
Ooi, 34, is in a straight fight with Chong Sin Woon (male) for the Selangor MCA Youth chief’s post after nominations closed at 8pm yesterday.
Asked if she thinks she could win, the businesswoman and mother of three, said: “I think I have a chance.”

JESSIE OOI, MCA Beliawanis national vice chairman
Fellow first-timer businesswoman Jessie Ooi is ready to serve constituents of Kuala Kubu Baru.
The MCA Beliawanis national vice chairman will replace outgoing assemblyman Wong Koon Mun.
“I will try my best to serve the people there, just as I have with Selayang,” said Ooi, who is the Barisan Nasional Selayang parliamentary coordinator.

Ooi and Lee to fight for Kuala Kubu Baru state seat
In the fight: Beliawanis Selangor MCA chief Ooi (left) is set to contest the Kuala Kubu Baru state seat against DAP’s Lee Kee Hiong.
THE fight for the Kuala Kubu Baru state seat in the 13th general election (GE 13) is likely to be a ladies affair.
Beliawanis Selangor MCA chief Jessie Ooi, who was formerly the Selayang parliamentary coordinator, is set to contest against Lee Kee Hiong, the former aide to DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.
Incumbent Kuala Kubu Baru assemblyman Wong Koon Mun will not be defending the seat as he wants to focus on his business.
In the 2008 general election, Wong beat DAP’s K.A. Ramu with a 448-vote majority.
Ooi, 34, a mother of three, has also got a lot of support from the Selangor MCA Youth in spearheading many community projects, organising social activities like bowling and get-togethers.
Ooi has been helping her father Johnson Ooi, who is the Selayang Jaya MCA complaints bureau chief, since she was 10.
She joined MCA when she was 21 and continued to do social work while helping her father.
“If I am given a seat here, I will do my level best to serve the people of Kuala Kubu Baru. If I am elected, I will look into solving issues like transportation, social ills and lack of business opportunities for locals,” she said.
Lee, 48, who is from Muar, Johor, has been stationed in Kuala Kubu Baru for the last two months to address residents’ issues.
Lee has been in politics for more than two decades. She made a name for herself by spearheading the fight against a developer in Kajang and winning the court case.

A little known MCA politician has become an unwitting ‘star’ online after the conclusion of the debate between MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng yesterday.
Jessie Ooi (right), a Selangor MCA activist, has become an Internet sensation of sorts because of the manner in which she posed a question to Lim, as well as its content.
“I am ‘half’ a Penangite. You always talk about lightening the people’s burden. But assessment rates are up. All prices are going up.
“Moreover, at 10.30pm at night, I saw this twice with my own eyes, 10.30pm the roads are devoid of cars, but you still ask enforcement officers to tow cars.
“It concluded with a fight where there were severe injuries. How do you explain this security issue? Is this called lightening the people’s burden?” she said.
………….
Netizens are also pouring scorn over the incredulous and incoherent nature of her tirade, along with the fact that Penang’s assessment rates had not changed since 2007.But more importantly, her critics honed in on her remark about the car-towing incident and have nicknamed her ‘Ms Tow Truck’.
They pointed out flaws in Ooi’s argument such as her assertion that there are no cars after 10.30pm and that there should not be enforcement work late at night.
This had inspired numerous humorous Photoshop images which have gone viral.

‘Ms Tow Truck’ no longer Selayang BN coordinator
Selangor MCA Beliawanis chief Jessie Ooi is no longer Selayang BN coordinator after she was not reappointed when her post lapsed six months ago.
Ooi shot to fame and earned herself the ‘Ms Tow Truck’ moniker after her angry outburst at the public debate between MCA chief Dr Chua Soi Lek and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng in February this year.
A teary-eyed Ooi told a press conference yesterday that she failed to enjoy wide support from party leaders and her position as Selayang BN coordinator was subsequently not extended by Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is BN chief.
