The Bangsar-Damansara Elevated Highway, another Tengku Adnan project…

PETALING JAYA: Two Pakatan Harapan MPs have urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate a highway project objected by several residents’ groups, five months after lodging a report with the anti-graft body.

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzi also questioned why the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is funding the Bangsar-Damansara Elevated Highway, adding that there was no open tender.

The three-lane carriageway will stretch from Jalan Semantan in Damansara to the junction of Sprint Highway with Jalan Maarof in Bangsar.

Authorities said it would shorten the journey from Bangsar to Pusat Bandar Damansara, but residents said it would only make traffic congestion in the area worse.

Both MPs said they were informed that construction works had just commenced.

They questioned why DBKL was spending RM100 million, almost half the cost of the RM211.5 million project.

Impian Ekspresi Sdn Bhd is funding the remaining RM111.5 million.

“We are deeply concerned that such enormous spending of public funds by DBKL in such close proximity with a private development project has not been done via open tender.

“As such, we are repeating our call for MACC to urgently investigate and provide an update on their findings to the residents,” the duo said.

In early 2018, then-federal territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the project was scheduled for completion in June 2020

Bukit Bandaraya Residents’ Association adviser M Ali had claimed that no holistic studies were carried out on the project.

“The planners must look at the whole area in totality and not in isolated packages,” Ali, who is also part of pressure group Selamatkan Kuala Lumpur (SKL), said in May last year.

“What we can see now are DBKL and the developer seemingly ‘solving’ the problem by moving the congestion from one area to another,” he had said.
