Police have recorded statements from 15 people regarding a statutory declaration (SD) made by former police commando Azilah Hadri.

In a statement today, Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department deputy director Mohd Roze Shaari said more witnesses will be called in.

“(We want to) complete investigations before Azilah’s application to review the death sentence is heard (on April 20),” he said.

In October last year, Azilah signed a sworn statement stating that he, acting on orders of then deputy prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, murdered Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu in 2006.

Cops record statements from 12 people, including Azeez over audio clips

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have recorded statements from 12 people in their investigation with regard to the recent release of nine audio recordings by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department (Intelligence and Operations) deputy director Datuk Mohd Roze Shaari said those who had given statements include Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s former principal private secretary Tan Sri Shukry Mohd Salleh and Najib’s former special officer Datuk Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin.

“All those identified in the audio recordings had their statements taken under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Roze, however, said statements from Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor as well as former MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad would be recorded soon.

On Jan 8, the MACC released the audio recordings of conversations which allegedly comprise, among others, the leak of information from the Attorney-General’s Chambers to Najib during his tenure as prime minister. There are also conversations concerning investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and SRC International Sdn Bhd.

The recordings are believed to involve Rosmah, Dzulkifli, a prominent foreigner and several other individuals too.

In another development, Mohd Roze said the police had recorded statements from 15 witnesses in connection with the investigation into the statutory declaration of former Special Action Unit (UTK) member Azilah Hadri who claimed to have received orders to kill Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu from Najib.

“Other witnesses who have been identified will be called up to complete the investigation before Azilah’s application for review of his death sentence (scheduled to be heard on April 20),” he said. — Bernama
