Police versus MACC. Again.

MACC chief Latheefa Koya said the anti-graft body has no tolerance for any kind of assault while in detention and that all allegations will be seriously investigated, with full cooperation given to any investigating body.

“I refer to a police report made by three policemen in connection with an alleged assault by a MACC officer. The MACC has put in place a stringent standard operating procedure (SOP) to arrest and detain suspects.

“In this case, the police who are the complainants, are themselves being investigated by the MACC for allegedly extorting a drug abuse suspect,” Latheefa (photo) said in a statement today.

She said that the investigation was part of an escalated drive by the Selangor MACC following allegations of extortion involving police.

“A police report was also lodged by the MACC official stating that the allegations of assault while in detention were false,” she said.

The three police personnel, aged 24, 25, and 26, are from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Sungai Buloh District police headquarters.

The trio claimed they were punched, slapped and kicked by the MACC officer when their statements were being recorded in a room at the Selangor MACC office in Shah Alam on Dec 24 and 26.

They subsequently lodged a police report against the MACC officer on Dec 27.
