DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said any political parties or politicians who received money from funds diverted from 1MDB should return it to the government.
“All political parties and politicians, including MPs of the 13th Parliament, should return to public coffers any funding and donations they had received from the 1MDB scandal,” Lim said in a statement today.
He also urged those who had “aided and abetted” former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and the 1MDB scandal to apologise to the country by tomorrow so they do not carry this matter with them into the new year.
“They have two days to make a clean breast of their past as enablers of Najib’s kleptocracy, and to declare and demonstrate their regret and contrition for not standing up to the crime of global kleptocracy and failing the nation – or they will carry the cross of being enablers of Najib kleptocracy into the new year,” he said.
These people would include ministers in Najib’s cabinet, then the Dewan Rakyat speaker, MPs and media practitioners who helped suppress the 1MDB scandal as well as political leaders who accepted money from the fund, he said.
Lim also criticised those remaining in the BN coalition for failing to concede that 1MDB was a “monstrous scandal” or repudiate Najib within the last seven months since Pakatan Harapan took over the government.
“In this context, the recent appointment of Najib to the Umno advisory committee is a clear sign of Umno’s unrepentant role of its infamous kleptocratic past,” he said.
This is why, he added, the 1MDB scandal must be kept in the limelight until the country develops a culture of zero tolerance for corruption.

The party’s deputy secretary-general Datuk Simon Sabapathy confirmed this, saying that he was contacted by an MACC officer on Thursday morning asking for financial documents.
“He said they were looking at funds that were transferred from Umno to MyPPP during his (Kayveas’) time.
“I informed him that if there were any documents, they would either be in the party headquarters or a storage unit in Subang where Kayveas’ personal belongings have been kept since he was evicted,” he told The Star on Thursday.
