KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 — The defamation suit filed by DAP lawmaker Yeo Bee Yin against Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos was settled today after the Umno grassroots leader tendered an apology in court for accusing her of misusing funds from a Selangor welfare foundation.

Yeo’s lawyer Datuk Sankara N. Nair confirmed that Jamal’s public apology was recorded in the High Court today as settlement of the defamation lawsuit.

“There is a general imputation in law that all persons are of good repute until otherwise proved. Reputation is therefore a valuable commodity to all.

“With today’s proceedings and the public apology by Datuk Seri Jamal to my client, in respect of this appalling episode, which had cast a taint on my client’s untarnished reputation, has now been indelibly removed.

“It is irrefutable that my client’s character and reputation is impeccable. She is fully vindicated,” he told Malay Mail.

Today was initially scheduled to be the start of the full trial for Yeo’s defamation lawsuit against Jamal, but the public apology was recorded as settlement of the defamation lawsuit instead before it could start.

Sankara confirmed that the apology had been agreed to by both Jamal and Yeo, before it was recorded by High Court judge Datuk Rozana Ali Yusoff as settlement of the case.

Lawyer S N Nair, who appeared for Yeo, said High Court judge Rozanna Ali Yusoff ruled that there was no merit by the defendant to annul the suit.

“She also ordered costs of RM2,000 and fixed case management for Oct 9,” he told reporters.

The court had earlier fixed hearing dates from Nov 9 to 13 if the court threw out Jamal’s bid to strike out the suit.

Jamal moves to strike out Yeo’s suit over welfare aid

Ho Kit Yen -July 8, 2020 11:00 AM

KUALA LUMPUR: Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos is seeking to strike out the RM5 million suit filed against him by former energy, science, technology, environment and climate change minister Yeo Bee Yin over his claim in 2017 that she had abused funds from the Selangor state fund during her time as Damansara Utama assemblyman.

Yeo’s lawyer SN Nair told reporters outside the High Court here that the striking-out application was filed on June 25.

In it, he said, Jamal had argued that investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission were ongoing, and that Yeo’s lawsuit was premature pending the outcome.

“The High Court judge (Rozanna Ali Yusoff) ordered us to reply to his striking-out application by July 15,” he said, adding that this would be heard on July 23.

The court has also fixed Nov 9 to 13 to hear the suit, if the court throws out Jamal’s bid to strike it out.

Meanwhile, Nair said another High Court had rejected Jamal’s bid to annul the suit filed against him by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok in January.

Kok filed the suit over Jamal’s allegations that she too had abused Yawas funds, saying his remarks had tarnished her reputation as a senior politician in DAP and painted her as a corrupt individual.

“He has filed an appeal against the striking-out dismissal,” Nair said, adding that the Court of Appeal would hear this on Nov 27.

Yeo Bee Yin is now the Member of Parliament for Bakri, Johor and the Minister of Energy, Technology, Science, Climate Change and Environment. When she filed her suit against Jamal Yunos in 2017, she was the State Assembly person for Damansara Utama.

As for Jamal Yunos, he is in a whole lot of trouble with the Law. For details of this: No bail, only Jail for Jamal Yunos, please!

Jamal asked for stay of today’s hearing on Yeo’s defamation suit

KUALA LUMPUR (May 7): Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos has applied for a stay of the hearing of a defamation suit filed against him by Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Yeo Bee Yin which was scheduled to begin today and continue for the next two days.

Jamal’s lawyers V Mugunthan and Mohd Nasir Yusof said they got instructions to file a stay of proceedings as their client wanted to know the outcome of the report he lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding his allegation on Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas).

“We have sought a postponement of today’s hearing as the stay is filed. We want to know if there is an outcome to the MACC investigation on the matter as it is related to our client’s defence,” Mugunthan told reporters after meeting High Court judge Justice Datuk Nik Hasmat Nik Mohamad in her chambers.

Mugunthan said as a result, the court allows us to seek the information from the MACC and has fixed June 19 for case management. Yeo is represented by lawyer K Murali.

It was previously reported that Justice Nik Hasmat had fixed the trial to proceed from today until Thursday (May 9).

No settlement yet for Yeo’s RM5 million suit against Jamal

KUALA LUMPUR: Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos has yet to resolve the RM5 million lawsuit filed against him by Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin.

She sued Jamal last year for alleging she had abused funds from Selangor’s Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) when she was Damansara Utama assemblywoman.

Yeo’s lawyer SN Nair said today that she and Jamal needed to return to the court’s mediation centre on Jan 10, 2019, to update whether the RM5 million lawsuit could be settled out of court.

“We were left open ended during the session today,” he told reporters after attending the two-hour mediation session today.

He added it was only fair to Yeo if the settlement was reasonable.

Meanwhile, Jamal, the Sungai Besar Umno division leader, said he was trying his best to resolve the lawsuit.

Respond to my suit, DAP rep tells Jamal Yunos

Damansara Utama assemblyperson Yeo Bee Yin has urged Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos to respond to her RM5 million defamation suit against him.

Speaking to reporters at the Kuala Lumpur High Court lobby, Yeo said today was the first case management for the suit originally filed on June 14.

“It is important for him to come to court and file his defence.

“Let’s get a trial so I can clear my name,” Yeo said in reference to Jamal’s reported allegations that she had misappropriated state funds meant for its Senior Citizens Friendly Scheme and disbursed through the Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) organisation.

Among others, Yeo said Jamal, along with six other NGOs, had, during a press conference on March 21, accused her of shortchanging eligible constituents from the RM2,500 funds distributed under the scheme, as well as giving priority to DAP members.

“I have decided to sue because I think it is important for politicians to have a good name.

“These allegations have spoiled my track record,” she said, adding that having a trial would be the best avenue to clear her reputation.

Yeo’s lawyer SN Nair, meanwhile, said that senior assistant registrar Rumaizah Baharom had earlier set Aug 3 as the next case management date for the suit.

“If he (Jamal) doesn’t show up (on Aug 3), we will apply for a judgment in default,” he said, adding that there has so far been no response from Jamal or his lawyers.

Yeo Bee Yin: Who’s behind Jamal Yunos on his YAWAS allegation against me?

Media Statement by Yeo Bee Yin, ADUN for Damansara Utama on Wednesday 22 March 2017 in Petaling Jaya.

Yesterday I received calls from the reporters that Jamal Yunos has lodged a police report against me on the management of Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) fund. This is a false allegation against me.

Nothing to Hide

I’ve taken a look at the video and picture of his press conference yesterday. The document that he hold in his hand is the exact document that can prove that we have submited all the necessary documents to the land office for check and balance.

The last column are the dates of documents recoup, which means that we’ve disbursed the fund and the signed receipts by the beneficiaries together with the copies of the identify cards of the beneficiaris and the deceased as well as the death certificate of the deceased have been submitted to the land office.

He challenged me to show the proof and deny the allegation. Here’s the proof. I am showing here 10 ring files with the supporting documents of all the SMUE payments we made. If the files are stacked on top of each other, it will be more than 75cm high! (picture above)
Who’s behind Jamal?

Most importantly, I can’t help but to be suspicious of why I suddenly become the target of Jamal Yunus. I’ve been demanding Rosmah Mansor to resign as the patron of Permata for the past one week.

While defending her boss, Rizal Mansor has also on his Facebook post on 18 March added the following sentence, Tabung YAWAS Dun Damansara Utama pula apa kisahnya ? Jeng…jeng…jeng…” (YAWAS is the fund used for SMUE.) Just a few days later, I become the target of Jamal Yunus on the same matter.

Is it by coincidence? Who’s the boss behind Jamal Yunus? Does this someone behind Jamal Yunus want to disturb and distract me so I do not pursue the matter on Permata further? Is this tactic to divert the attention?
