Shamsher: Ramasamy doesn’t control what I say

December 9, 2016

GEORGE TOWN: Former DAP member Shamsher Singh Thind has stressed he speaks his mind freely and without the influence of his mentor, party deputy secretary-general P Ramasamy.

Shamsher, who recently quit the party, said Ramasamy gave him full freedom to say what he wanted.

He said this was despite his outspokenness regarding party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

“However, that does not mean he (Ramasamy) approves of my speeches or agrees with everything l say.

“To him, l am an adult and l know the consequences of my actions.

“He does not have to tell me or stop me from doing anything. His philosophy is, let there be no compulsion in politics,” Shamsher told FMT today.

DAP delegate loses faith in party, quits

December 4, 2016

Shamsher Singh Thind says Lim Kit Siang can no longer be trusted after working with former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former DPM Muhyiddin Yassin.

PETALING JAYA: A DAP grassroots leader has quit the party citing his loss of confidence in the party leadership, especially Lim Kit Siang.

Shamsher Singh Thind, a delegate of the DAP’s Chai Leng Park branch, said Lim Kit Siang could no longer be trusted since he was now willing to work with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

“I could write a thesis on the nature and extent of the allegations that Kit Siang and other prominent opposition leaders have made against Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin in the past.

“From what I see, either Kit Siang lied about Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin, or he has no problem working hand-in-hand with those who abused their powers and who were corrupt in the past.

“Whichever view is adopted, the point that I want to prove is that Kit Siang has lost his credibility,” he said, asking if Lim would someday end up working with Najib as well to topple yet another PM.

“If it is acceptable to work with Mahathir to topple Najib then I am sure Kit Siang will have no problem in working with Najib to topple the prime minister in the future.”

Shamsher fends off detractors over anti-Mahathir speech

GEORGE TOWN: An outspoken DAP member, who hit out at his party leadership for joining hands with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said he had the silent backing of party members.

Chai Leng Park DAP member Shamsher Singh Thind said comments that his views did not represent his party and which likened his actions to that of Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos were uncalled for.

Shamsher had told his fellow Penang DAP members at the recently-concluded convention that the party ought to distance itself from Mahathir, who he likened to a snake and pimp.

He later retracted the comments after being told to do so by party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

In rebutting the comments, Shamsher first responded to Universiti Malaya political analyst Azman Awang Pawi, who had likened the outburst to a small blip on the radar.

Shamsher went on to prove three instances when other DAP leaders and members had expressed their disdain over fellowship with Mahathir.

“On Aug 11, DAP Socialist Youth’s political education director Chiong Yoke Kong called PPBM (founded by Mahathir) a clone of Umno and said new parties which practised racial discrimination would not ‘Save Malaysia’.

“On April 19 last year, Bukit Gelugor MP (Ramkarpal Singh) reportedly said that the ‘question of working with Dr Mahathir is an unimaginable disaster waiting to happen’.

“Furthermore, after my speech at the DAP annual state convention on Sunday, several veteran members came to me and shook my hand, indicating to me that they approved of my comments.”

On comments that he was like the infamous Jamal, Shamsher said this was an unfair comparison.

“Jamal has mobilised people to disrupt peaceful assemblies, but l used a platform provided by the party to all delegates to speak within the given time limit.

“How is it even remotely possible that l am likened to Jamal?”

DAP delegate retracts statement calling Dr M pimp, snake

In a statement later, Shamser said he withdrew the words “pimp” and “snake” out of respect for Lim.

However, he stressed the instructions to retract should have come from the conference speaker and not the secretary-general.

His disapproval over co-operation with Mahathir and Mahathir’s new party still stands.

“He has neither apologised or (been) punished for what he has been done.

“He has no interest in saving Malaysia. He just wants to safeguard his interests because he is worried about his future if Pakatan (Harapan) wins,” he said in the statement.

He also condemned co-operation with Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.

“Muhyiddin defended the novel Interlok, which contained the derogatory word ‘pariah’ (when he was education minister),” Shamser said.

A Penang DAP convention delegate today likened former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to a “pimp” and a “snake”, but later retracted his statement on DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s urging.

According to The Star, Chai Leng Park delegate Shamsher Singh Thind said Mahathir reminded him of a parable of a snake which bites because this is in its nature.

“The stupidest statement I have heard (about Dr Mahathir) is that ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’.

“Mahathir is not the enemy of my enemy. He is my enemy,” he added.

He asked party elders who shook hands with Mahathir if they felt humiliated, and claimed the now Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairperson is cosying up to the opposition for fear of exposes against him.

“It’s like wanting to save a whore, but he is the pimp who turned the woman into a whore,” Shamsher reportedly said.

Lim urged Shamser to retract the statements referring to the ex-PM as a snake and pimp as it was not decorum.

“Let us not go down to that level…Treat this like a lecture hall and you are the lecturer,” Lim reportedly said.

Major drama: Mahathir labelled “snake” and “pimp” during ruckus at DAP Penang convention, causes uproar

By PHUAH KEN LIN – 6 November 2016 @ 7:10 PM
GEORGE TOWN: An outspoken DAP grassroot member used the terms “ular” (snake) and “bapak ayam” (pimp) to refer to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during a fiery debate session at the party’s annual state convention today – an act which earned the ire of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Shamsher Singh Thind from the Chai Leng Park branch was interrupted and rebuked by Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, for his use of the derogatory terms and ordered to withdraw his remarks.
Shamsher, who had the floor in the debate and likened Dr Mahathir to “a pimp of prostitutes” and a “snake” stood his ground and refused to concede in a brief verbal exchange with Lim. His antics stunned the 300-odd delegates and media who attended the event.
“Dr Mahathir is our main enemy and as chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, he has no interest in saving Malaysia.
“He just wants to protect his interests, because he is worried about his future if Pakatan were to win the federal administration,” Shamsher said.
He also said Pakatan Harapan was a failure, like its now-defunct predecessor, Pakatan Rakyat, due to intense in-fighting.Read More : http://www.nst.com.my/news/2016/11/186384/major-drama-mahathir-labelled-snake-and-pimp-during-ruckus-dap-penang-convention
