Jamal yesterday called for a rally outside the Federal Court on Oct 12, the day of the review of Anwar’s sodomy conviction.
This was in response to Motley’s call for the public to attend the review hearing.
‘Umno’s threats against Anwar’s US lawyer a new low’
Threats by Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos against Anwar Ibrahim’s American lawyer Kimberley Motley have sunk the party to a new low, a lawyer said today.
Latheefa Koya, who is also on Anwar’s legal team, said this in response to Jamal’s threat to stage demonstrations against Motley.
“This is a blatant attempt to intimidate and obstruct Motley from doing her job as an international legal adviser.
“By threatening to protest against her at the Federal Court on Oct 12, Jamal and Umno are undermining the legal system and interfering in the judicial process,” Latheefa said in a statement today.
She added that this was further evidence of a political conspiracy against Anwar.

Human rights lawyer fails to meet Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: Human rights lawyer Kimberley Motley, who travelled thousands of kilometres to Malaysia to meet Anwar Ibrahim, was left disappointed after she was denied access to the former Opposition leader at the Sungai Buloh Prison.
Refusing to throw in the towel, Motley, along with lawyer Raul Lee Bhaskaran, headed to the home ministry to demand an explanation, only to be rejected once more.
According to Raul, the pair were denied entry as there was no officer in charge who could allow them into the home ministry.
“No one is in charge who can give us permission, yet they knew we were coming.”

When asked how she was going to tackle the case of sodomy, Motley was adamant that Anwar had not committed the crime.
“Well, he didn’t do it. The evidence overwhelmingly showed that Anwar is innocent of sodomy.
“For instance, the alleged victim reported the sodomy two days before it even happened.
“The alleged victim’s statements have been inconsistent from the beginning till end. Anwar’s statements – the truth – have always been consistent.
“That’s the thing about the truth. The truth always stays the same and lies always change.”
