RM1.14mil stolen from ATMs and safe boxes at hypermart

KUALA NERUS: A total of RM1.14mil in cash was stolen from two ATMs and three safe boxes at a hypermarket here Sunday.

State CID chief Asst Comm Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah said a group of seven men, believed to be foreigners, carried out the robbery between 2.15am and 6.45am.

ACP Wan Abd Aziz said that according to the statement by the security officers, the robbers could be Vietnamese or Cambodians from the language they spoke to each other.

“We are also investigating whether insiders or former employees were involved in the robbery,” he said.

Robbers escape with RM1.14m after breaking open hypermarket ATMs, safes

KUALA NERUS: Seven masked men escaped with a staggering RM1.14 million in cash after breaking open two ATMs and three safes at a hypermarket here, today.

The early morning heist took place at 2.15am when the seven, armed with parang and pistols, barged into the location….subdued the four security guards, tied them up and locked them in a store room.
.
The robbers then got to work, using oxy-acetylene torches and iron cutters to break open the ATMs and safes.
.
State Criminal and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Hamzah said they believe the robbers also used hammers and other tools to break the safes.

One of the guards managed to free himself by 6.30am and alerted his employer.
