QUICK TAKE: One wonders what living with Mohammad Affandi Ismail, the 39-year-old vet is like. As he entered the magistrate’s court in Bukit Mertajam, he could not resist a smile and a thumbs-up for the photographers.
He was in court for allegedly slapping and kicking his wife, as they travelled in a lift at the KPJ Hospital in Bandar Perda. The CCTV clip of his abuse, went viral.
Mohammad Affandi, a father of three, from Jerantut, is heavily built whilst his wife has a small frame.
What must his children think of a father who uses his fists to settle an argument? Was he the product of an abusive parent?
He reminds us of men who treat their personal possessions, like cars or sound equipment, better than their wives, girlfriends or mothers. He is an arrogant character, and one wonders if he behaves badly at work?
One also hopes that the animals under his care, do not suffer, if they “disrespect” him.
His wife has been granted a protection order.
The offence happened on 12 August 2013. The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum one-year jail term, or a maximum fine of RM2,000 fine or both.
Why has it taken all this time to take him to court?
One hopes that if found guilty, he is slapped with the maximum sentence and fine, because he needs to be taught a lesson to respect women.
Mohammad Affandi is a disgrace to fathers, men, and especially to Malay men.
