UPDATE: Tremors from #Indonesia‘s #Sumatraquake also felt in #Malaysia, Malaysia’s meteorological agency says http://str.sg/ZyuK
The tremors from the quake could be felt in parts of Singapore. A Sengkang resident, who wanted to be known only as Ms W Ong, said she felt the ground shake for about 15 seconds at 8.52pm.
“I could feel my bed moving and I saw the wind chimes swaying even though my windows were shut. I suspected it’s tremors from a quake in a neighbouring country because this was what happened some years back during the Sumatra earthquake,” said the 39-year-old civil servant.
Bukit Panjang resident Angela A, 22, left their house with her family members when she felt the tremors. “The bed was shaking,” she said. “I felt like I was being rocked on a hammock.”
Some parts of Malaysia also felt tremors at around 8.50pm, the Bernama news agency reported, citing the Malaysian meteorological agency. However, no tsunami alert had been issued, the meteorological agency said

Chris: BREAKING NEWS #Indonesia issues tsunami warning after massive 7.9 magnitude #quake. http://timesofoman.com/article/78654/World/Asia/Indonesia-issues-tsunami-warning-after-massive-79-magnitude-quake …

Jakarta: Indonesia issued a tsunami warning on Wednesday after a massive and shallow earthquake struck off the west coast of the island of Sumatra.
The warning was issued for West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh after the quake of magnitude 7.9, the National Meteorolgical Agency said. The epicentre was 808 km (502 miles) southwest of Padang, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It was 10 km (six miles) deep. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties but the shallower a quake, the more likely it is to cause damage. USGS originally put the magnitude at 8.2, and then 8.1, before lowering it to 7.9. Indonesia, especially Aceh, was badly hit by the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004.
‘The country straddles the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire”, a highly seismically active zone, where different plates on the earth’s crust meet and create a large number of earthquakes and volcanoes.
