Parliament Secretariat upset ‘scissors salad’ went viral
Of course they are upset! They don’t want the WHOLE WIDE WORLD to know of their shame.
The red-faced Parliament Secretariat is upset with the circulation of a picture showing an English language error on a menu card for an official dinner at the Parliament building.
It said the menu card, which misspelled ‘Caesar’s salad’ as ‘scissors salad’ was actually replaced when the error was identified, before the official dinner ceremony for the aides of parliamentarians.
“We regret that the erroneous menu card was circulated by irresponsible parties, inviting negative impression on the Malaysian Parliament,” the secretariat said in a statement late yesterday.
It also stressed that the menu card was prepared by the caterer and by not the Parliament Secretariat.

What the Dickens: I am not surprised at the deteriorating standard of English nowadays in Malaysia.
What else can you expect when many teachers who are supposed to teach English have questionable command of the language itself – more like ‘pukul enam setengah’ (half-past six) standard.

Deputy Speaker confirms no actual scissors served, just usual salad
PETALING JAYA: In a humourous Facebook posting, a Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker confirmed that no stationery was served to parliament officers as appetisers for dinner.
The public can rest assured that the officers who run the nation’s legislative body had dined on safe Caesar salad sans-scissors.
“An image has gone viral on social media where “scissors salad” was served during a dinner event in Parliament. I happened to attend the event and can confirm that there were no actual scissors in the salad, just a normal “Caesar salad”,” Datuk Ronald Kiandee clarified on Wednesday.
“Although this is an amusing mistake by the caterer, but as an important institution, parliament staff must be more careful so that such a mistake would not happen again. Hmm… scissors salad!” he said.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 ― Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee was forced to tick off Parliament staff today for the misspelling of the appetiser in a dinner menu served two days ago, after snapshots of it spread on the Internet.
Kiandee conceded that the mistake was “funny” even as Malaysians poked fun at diners being served “scissors salad” in Parliament, but added that such a misspelling of “Caesar salad” should not have happened during a function in the country’s lawmaking institution.
“I confirmed that there was no scissors in the salad but it was just a regular ‘ceasar salad’.
“Although this was a funny mistake by the caterer, Parliamentary staff should be more careful so mistakes like this will not be repeated in the future,” he said in a Facebook post.
The menu, dated two days ago for a function in Parliament, stated “scissors salad” and “cream brule”, along with other regular items such as pumpkin soup and lamb chop.
The hashtag #scissorssalad has been trending on Twitter and Facebook since yesterday, with Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin posting a picture of scissors-shaped lettuce on Twitter saying, “Couldn’t resist. Hidop scissors salad,” which means, long live scissors salad.
