‘Casanova Ustaz’ jailed for five months

KUALA LUMPUR: The Syariah Lower Court has sentenced a health drink seller nicknamed “Casanova Ustaz” to five months in jail for attempted polygamy and not registering his marriage.
He was also ordered to pay a RM4,000 fine on Monday.
Mohd Razis Ismail…., 34, was sentenced by Syarie Judge Mohd Saifullah Hamzah over five charges involving five women: three charges for attempted polygamy without permission and two charges for getting married without the court registrar’s permission.
Clad in a red jail outfit, Razis who was seen calm upon receiving his sentence from the dock, had pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted polygamy with three other women, aged 24, 35, and 30, on Feb 29.

KUALA LUMPUR: A man known as ‘Ustaz Casanova’ who had 13 marriages was sentenced to a years’ jail and 6 strokes of the rotan by the Syariah High Court today.
Mohd Razis Ismail, who had on Feb 29 pleaded guilty to the offence, appeared calm when the judge passed the sentence on him.
In handing down the sentence, Syarie judge Nassir Abdul Aziz said what the accused did had caused the public to have a negative perception towards those who carry out Islamic teachings.
“The accused had adopted the image of an ‘Ustaz’ (religious teacher) to deceive women, until he was given the title which is embarrassing to the religion,” he said.
The judge added that the accused had admitted to the element of the offence and was therefore is guilty. The judge said the man’s action also led to a woman becoming pregnant out of wedlock in 2012.
“Furthermore, he was conscious when he committed the offence and was aware of the effects of his actions,” he said.

Man, 34, with eight children pleads guilty in Syariah Court.
PETALING JAYA: A “Casanova Ustaz” has been charged in the Kuala Lumpur Syariah Court with six counts of committing illicit sex, attempted polygamy and not registering his marriage, The Star reported.
The daily reported that Mohd Razis Ismail, 34, pleaded guilty to the charges.
It said Razis would be sentenced on March 7 to a charge of committing adultery with a woman, aged 40, and having a child out of wedlock with her in 2012.
He admitted committing a similar offence with another woman, aged 24.
He admitted committing all the offences in Kedah, Golok in Thailand and a flat in Jalan Loke Yew here between 2010 and 2012.
In mitigation, Razis told the court he earned a meagre salary, selling water filters and had eight children to feed.
He was offered bail of RM5,000 pending sentencing.

Hunt for ‘amorous ustaz’
A 33-YEAR-OLD ustaz who charmed women with his so-called Islamic credentials has become a wanted man by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi), reported Harian Metro.
A source told the tabloid that Jawi had issued a notice to all departments and authorities declaring Mohd Razis Ismail a wanted person.
To court women, Mohd Razis, a former religious school student, had purportedly told them stories about how he served as an imam in mosques in Australia and Singapore, among others.
For his latest marriage, the source said Razis had claimed to be a deputy director at the Home Ministry and responsible for Islamic matters around the country.
It is also believed that Razis would bring a pair of handcuffs with him wherever he went, to prove that he was a Home Ministry officer who could detain anybody.
He recently married a higher learning institution student in her 20s in a neighbouring country while still being investigated by Jawi.
He is said to have married and divorced 13 times.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) is tracking down a man impersonating an ustaz (religious teacher), who is believed to have deceived 13 women through marriage and polygamy without court’s permission.
JAWI director Paimuzi Yahya said on Oct 25 the Kuala Lumpur Syariah Court has issued a warrant of arrest against Mohd Razis Ismail, also known as Ustaz Casanova, after he failed to appear at the department to extend his bail.
“The offence committed by the suspect is marrying without going through then stipulated procedures.
“Most of his marriages and divorces are not registered under the Malaysian law,” he told a press conference here today.
Paimuzi said the suspect’s modus operandi was to pose as a religious teacher to trick his victims.
“He claimed to be single and is known as Ustaz Arrozi Abdul Rahman and Ibnu Ar Razi. He targeted on female students at higher education institutions or widows who are financially well-off,” he added.
