Police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission seized a laptop computer from a Malaysiakini journalist after questioning the journalist over a report on the transfer of a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecutor.
This is the investigators’ second visit to Malaysiakini‘s headquarters in Petaling Jaya in the probe on the report.
The investigators questioned two journalists for about one hour and left at about 4.30pm.
Lawyer New Sin Yew, who is assisting Malaysiakini, was present when the statements were taken.
During the interview, the police asked about the source or sources of the Malaysiakini report which the journalists refused to answer.
More Malaysiakini journalists are expected to be questioned over the matter.
Investigators also questioned a journalist from The Star on a report on the same issue today, the daily reported earlier.
The authorities seized computers from Malaysiakini and The Star last Friday.

Police, MCMC raid Malaysiakini, seize computer
Malaysiakini’s office was raided over the report that a deputy public prosecutor was transferred out of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) special operations division.
A team comprising some 10 officers from the police as well as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) arrived at the news portal’s office in Petaling Jaya at 5pm.
Following discussions, the officers left around 8pm after recording a statement from Malaysiakini editor-in-chief Steven Gan and seizing a computer.
On Wednesday, MCMC had recorded a statement from Gan and a journalist in connection with the report, which was published on Monday, , citing sources.
Initially, attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali denied that the officer, Ahmad Shazalee Abdul Khairi, was transferred out of MACC.
The Malaysiakini report, which is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation, made no mention of the officer being transferred out of the commission.
On Wednesday, de facto Law Minister Nancy Shukri confirmed that the DPP was given an internal transfer.
Commenting on the raid, Gan said Malaysiakini is willing to cooperate with the authorities but stressed that the news portal would protect the identity of its sources at all cost.
“As for the article, we stand by it. Furthermore, the law minister’s disclosure also confirmed that the report was not erroneous and a transfer did take place,” he said.

Nancy confirms MACC prosecutor transferred internally
Nancy confirms MACC prosecutor transferred internally http://twib.in/l/E9AK8dKRXX5 | https://twibble.io

PARLIAMENT De facto Law Minister Nancy Shukri tonight confirmed that Ahmad Shazalee Abdul Khairi, the deputy public prosecutor attached to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s special operations division, has been transferred internally.
According to her, Shazalee no longer worked under the division, which has been entrusted to probe the controversial transaction of state-owned SRC International Sdn Bhd, but still remained with MACC.
In her winding-up debate of Budget 2016, she complained that the government’s good faith has been misconstrued.
“Recently, he has been approved for promotion to grade L54 by Judicial and Legal Services Commission.
“So, the Attorney-General’s Chambers approved his promotion, and allowed him to continue with MACC, but he no longer works under special operations division,” she told the Dewan Rakyat.
The internal transfer would allow Shazalee to be promoted to grade L54, which could not be done if he had stayed with special operations division, Nancy added.
“This is a good intention from the government to promote him by getting him out of the division, so he has an opportunity to be promoted.
“This good intention, however, is interpreted with malice by certain quarters,” she said.

Attorney-General: No transfer order for MACC’s Ahmad Shazalee
PETALING JAYA: The Attorney General’s Chamber has denied issuing any transfer order for DPP Ahmad Shazalee Abdul Khairi to be moved out of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission.
The official AGC twitter account late Monday said “The AGC clarifies that there is no transfer order for DPP Ahmad Shazalee Abdul Khairi out of the MACC.”
A news portal had earlier reported that Ahmad Shazalee, the officer currently investigating former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd, was given an abrupt order to return to the AGC although his secondment was meant to be extended until 2017.
Ahmad Shazalee had said he was unaware of the transfer until it was reported in the media.
Ahmad Shazalee, who is with MACC’s special operations division, said he was “shocked” over the sudden move.
“I am also shocked. I am still coming to MACC, no one has told me anything about a transfer order,” Ahmad Shazalee said.

MACC prosecutor ‘shocked’ over sudden transfer
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor investigating SRC International says he was unaware of a transfer order to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) until it was reported in the media.
Ahmad Shazalee Abdul Khairi, who is with the MACC’s special operations division, said he was also “shocked” over the sudden move.
“I am also shocked. I am still coming to MACC, no one has told me anything about a transfer order,” Ahmad Shazalee said Monday.
This comes after a news portal reported that the DPP was given an abrupt order to return to the AGC though his secondment was meant to be extended until 2017.
It was unclear when the transfer order was issued or when it took effect.

Sudden transfer for MACC prosecutor
#Exclusive Sudden transfer for #MACC prosecutor https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/318152 @SPRMMalaysia

EXCLUSIVE | A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecutor who was involved with the remand of several key witnesses in the SRC International probe was suddenly transferred today, sources told Malaysiakini.
DPP Ahmad Shazalee Abdul Khairi, who was also picked up by the police in the wee hours of Aug 1, was held in a lock-up and had his home and office ransacked.
His documents and laptop were also seized from his MACC special operations division office on the same day before he was released.
What makes the transfer more perplexing is that his secondment to the MACC had just been extended in the middle of this year and was supposed to run until 2017.
But attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali had sent a letter on Oct 14 and had asked Ahmad Shazalee to report the next day.
However, it is understood that the MACC only received the letter on Friday (Oct 30).
When contacted, Apandi declined to comment on the transfer.
“I have so many officers being transferred. I can’t pinpoint which one,” he said, when asked for the reason behind Ahmad Shazalee’s transfer.
Sources from the Attorney-General’s Chambers and MACC confirmed Ahmad Shazalee’s sudden transfer.
It is not immediately known where Ahmad Shazalee reported for work today.
