Bersih has never paid anyone to participate. Often, participants pay for the privilege to participate: travel fares, board and lodging costs, donations to Bersih..
How much did they pay for those people to demonstrate?

A coalition of NGOs has filed a police report demanding an investigating into the source of funding for Bersih.
Gabungan NGO-NGO Malaysia chairperson Jamal Yunos filed the report with the Dang Wangi district police headquarters this afternoon.
Jamal also submitted documents he had obtained regarding this issue.
He also claimed to have received complaints from 32 youths, claiming they were promised RM300 if they attended the rally.
“They claimed getting RM100 as advance, another RM100 when they attend the rally and the balance after that.
“Each participant will receive clothes and four meals,” he told reporters after lodging the report.
He further claimed the money for the organisation to organise its rally came from politicians and businessmen.
Yesterday, Jamal warned that his coalition would deploy 30,000 people if Bersih went ahead with its Aug 29-30 overnight rally.
He also challenged Bersih to publicly reveal the source of its funds.

Group vows to bring 30,000 to counter Bersih 4
Group says will counter #Bersih4 rally with its own http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/309322

A group which claims to be supporters of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has threatened to gather tens of thousands to protest against the Bersih 4 rally come Aug 29.
Calling itself ‘Gabungan NGO-NGO Malaysia’, the group also said it would gather in front of Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah’s house if the rally goes ahead as planned.
“They will face 30,000 people against the rally if they continue with it,” said the coalition’s leader Jamal Mohd Yunos.
“We will also not hesitate to gather 6,000 to 7,000 people to open up stalls in front of Maria’s house.”
The group, which protested today at Jalan Masjid India, had brought along a cardboard cutout of Maria.
The 30 or so protesters, who wore yellow t-shirts with the words ‘Kita menyokong Perdana Menteri (We support the Prime Minister)’, later poured a red liquid to resemble blood on top of the cutout.
