‘Muslim Patrol’ jailed for harassing couple holding hands and men drinking in a bid to enforce Sharia law in East London

Three members of a so-called ‘Muslim Patrol’ were today jailed at the Old Bailey for repeatedly trying to enforce Sharia law in East London.

Jordan Horner and another Islamic extremist told one couple they could not hold hands while walking down the street, because it was in a ‘Muslim area’.

The radicals also attacked a group of men drinking in the road, and told a woman she would face ‘hell fire’ because of the way she was dressed.

Horner, 19, Ricardo MacFarlane, 36, and a 23-year-old man who cannot be named for legal reasons were sentenced to 68 weeks, 12 months and 24 weeks in prison respectively.

The court earlier heard that last December Horner and the 23-year-old man drove alongside Joshua Bilton and Anna Reddiford in Bethnal Green, and started yelling at them through a megaphone.

The teenage convert shouted: ‘Let go of each other’s hands. This is a Muslim area!’ – but the couple initially assumed it was a joke.

They stopped holding hands after the men repeated the message – and when they started again, the car blocked their way until they let go.

Two weeks later, Horner and MacFarlane attacked men drinking in Shoreditch, shouting: ‘Kill the non-believers.’

Horner then punched two of the group, hitting James Forward in the jaw and knocking out Patrick Kavanagh with a sucker punch to the head.

On January 13, Horner and the 23-year-old harassed another couple, Clare Coyle and Robert Gray, as they were walking in Stepney – accusing Miss Coyle of being a ‘slag’.

Police have so far made six arrests in connection with previous videos, which show self-styled vigilantes in Whitechapel harassing members of the public and hurling homophobic abuse.

In the latest film, they can be heard saying: “Islam is here in London, Mr. David Cameron, Mr. police officer, whether you like it or not.

“We are commanding good and forbidding evil on this Saturday night, while the police, they try to get us through the media.

“We are coming to implement Islam upon your own necks. Muslim patrols can never be stopped.

“Anyone who tries to stop us — anyone — we will take their alcohol, we will tell the women to cover up, and we will implement Islam upon your own necks, David Cameron.”

Six men have now been arrested in connection with similar videos, several of which are known to have been filmed on the streets of Whitechapel.

All of the arrests were on suspicion of GBH and public order offences, and all those arrested have since been bailed.

MUSLIM extremists investigated over attacks on gays and women once called on followers to “bomb the UK”.

One vigilante patrolling the streets led a rally where crowds were also ordered: “Annihilate those who insult Islam.”

Abdul Muhid, 30, was jailed in 2007 for encouraging murder and terrorism outside the Danish Embassy in London.

He is now a member of Muslim Patrol, cracking down on non-Islamic behaviour in East London.

Five people were arrested this week over videos showing homophobic abuse and verbal attacks on women.

The gangs call them “naked animals” while revellers are told to throw away “evil alcohol”. One man is called a “fag” and told to leave.

Muhid, who claims to be part of a larger “Sharia Patrol”, said: “It’s not going to stop. There are many teams out there. God almighty said the best Muslim is one that goes out and commands what is good and forbids what is evil.”

Police are investigating claims of homophobic behaviour.
