BN dinner sets new Record

60,000 supporters and superstar Michelle Yeoh…

From page 1 IT WAS a carnival-like atmosphere in Westpost, Port Klang, on Saturday night when more than 60,000 people thronged the parking bays to show their support towards Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Biggest ever: Najib presenting the Malaysia Book of Records certificate to Ta for organising the largest sit-down Lim, Liow, Dr Chua and Malaysian Book of Records founder and managing director Datuk Danny Ooi.

Also present were MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Selangor MCA chief Datuk Donald Lim and international actress Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh and organising chairman Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan.

Superstar backing: Yeoh gesturing the 1Malaysia sign after delivering her speech at the mega dinner.

People from all over Selangor started arriving as early as 5pm and two hours later, the traffic leading to the area was barely moving.

No one was complaining as they were there to reinforce their support for the Barisan Nasional.

Thousands of youths on bikes formed a nearly 10km-long motorcade to welcome Najib.

The event was organised by the Federation of Chinese Descendants of Selangor, who also prepared more than 5,000 tables for the guests.

NAJIB ASKS FOR CHINESE VOTES AT WESTPORT DINNER!

Free Malaysia Today

Najib asks Chinese community to back him

April 21, 2013

I ask that you continue to support us, so that we can continue the work we’ve started for the good of the community, and the nation,’ he says.

KUALA LUMPUR: Najib Tun Razak said today the support he has received from the people has heartened and encouraged him in the knowledge that the government has done a lot for the Chinese community over the last few years.

“I believe this is especially true on education, where we will continue a RM100 million yearly allocation for the maintenance and upgrading of Chinese schools.

“Normally, having a meal with 60 people would be considered a large dinner. Last night in Westport, Klang, I had the honour of sharing dinner with 60,000 people,” the prime minister said in his Facebook posting.

Its a lie. There were at the most, 20,000 people at the dinner. I was there. All around me, the tables were half filled, some were completely empty. We went for the food, not because we are BN supporters. Would this function have gotten 5,000 if no food were served? Furthermore, it was held in PKFZ, out in the wilderness. Majority went to have a free sit-down dinner, plain and simple.

KUALA LUMPUR: International actress Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh is the target of fierce attacks in cyberspace after reports emerged that the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star has accepted an invitation to attend a mammoth dinner organised by a group of Selangor Chinese businessmen.

Netizens took to social networking sites to criticise Michelle after an unofficial Facebook page in Chinese “We Fully Support PKR ” highlighted a local Chinese daily report about the event, which would also be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

The page, which was set up in 2010 and has over 300,000 “Likes”, posted a message on April 12 addressed to Michelle, which said: “You were once Malaysian people’s pride but now no longer.”

The anonymous author of the post then went on to ask Michelle if she had “any idea how her fellow countrymen live” before urging the 49-year-old actress to reconsider her decision and “not become a traitor”.

As at yesterday, the post had received close to 7,000 “Likes” and over 1,300 comments, most of which condemned Michelle.

However, others, including her father Datuk Yeoh Kian Tiek, came to Michelle’s defence, reminding Netizens that she had the right to support any political party.

OoiGEORGE TOWN, April 19 — Tomorrow will be see “parties” of different kinds being held — in the morning political parties will be submitting nomination forms for their candidates in the general election while at night a massive charity concert and a mega dinner will be held in Penang and Klang respectively.

In Penang, the 1 Malaysia Penang International Charity Drive concert, on the theme unity, peace and prosperity, is expected to draw a huge crowd of up to 80,000 due to its line-up of local and international artistes.

Organised by non-governmental organisation 1 Malaysia Welfare Club, with the intention to raise RM5 million for charitable organisations in the state, the concert will feature stars such as Ludacris, Swizz Beatz, Busta Rhymes, Leon Lai, George Lam, Alan Tham and Ning Baizura.

Held at the Han Chiang School grounds, the event will start at 7pm and full-page advertisements of the event can also be found in most mainstream newspapers where those interested to attend need only fill in the form in the advertisements and submit it along with a minimum donation of RM1 per person to several ticketing centres in Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

(***The relatively new Barisan Nasional-friendly 1 Malaysia Welfare Club has been organising charity dinners regularly, up to several times a week, throughout the state.)
……….

In Klang, a massive dinner is also being planned at West Port where 55,000 people are expected to attend.

The dinner, organised by a group of BN-friendly Selangor businessmen who call themselves “United Chinese Association of Selangor”, will also see a number of Hong Kong, Taiwan and local artistes performing.

Actress Datuk Michelle Yeoh is also slotted to attend the dinner titled “The Prime Minister has a date with you”.

The mega dinner may even make it into the Malaysia Book of Records as the biggest dinner in the country.

The organisers openly admit that the dinner was being organised in support of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and BN’s bid to win back Selangor in the polls on May 5.

Almost Rm4mil collected for concert

GEORGE TOWN: The 1Malaysia Welfare Club has sold over 55,000 tickets for a charity concert featuring international artistes at the Han Chiang High School (HCHS) field.

Final touches: (From left) Chow, Geh and Low conducting a site inspection of the HCHS field.Businessman Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low, said the club had collected RM3.98mil from ticket sales and donations from corporate and individual donors as of noon yesterday.

He said they were hopeful of achieving their RM5mil target set earlier.

“I hope everyone will enjoy themselves tomorrow. Each artiste is expected to perform three or four songs,” he said at a press conference after a site inspection of the HCHS field yesterday.

Also present was 1Malaysia Penang Welfare Club president Geh Choh Hun.

It was earlier reported that the concert, organised by the club, would see Redfoo of LMFAO, Swizz Beatz, Busta Rhymes and Ludacris in action, along with Hong Kong superstars Leon Lai, Alan Tham, Hacken Lee, George Lam, Gigi Leung and Grasshopper.

Other featured artistes include Ning Baizura, Eric Moo, Suchitra, Taiwanese Angela Chang and Berlinbased Compressorhead Robot Band.

Low said the gates would be opened at 3.30pm tomorrow, adding that the concert would kick off with performances by local artistes at 5pm.

Meanwhile, he rubbished allegations that the organiser would “pass off” details from photocopied MyKad for others to vote in the polls.

“Asking the public to produce their photocopied MyKad in exchange for tickets was to prevent unscrupulous parties from bulk buying and ‘black marketing’ later.

The 1Malaysia Welfare Club

What is the ‘1Malaysia-Penang Welfare Club’?

There’s a ‘charity’ club in Penang called the 1Malaysia-Penang Welfare Club as reported by Malaysiakini. It seems to do two things – it takes donations and it gives out donations – both in huge amounts. It seems to take donations from a particular billionaire and then “distributes” it to hundreds of NGOs in Penang. It’s not clear who else it takes donations from. The club had been set up not too long ago so it appears that its activities has been timed for the general election.

Currently, although there has been a several reports about the club in the newspapers and online news portals, I don’t think that there’s adequate reporting of the people in charge of the club. It has been reported that the club president is Geh Choh Hun.

Who is Geh Choh Hun? Research shows that he was appointed chairperson of UBG Bhd in 2010, at the age of 32. He sits on the Board of Loh & Loh and Putrajaya Perdana representing UBG’s interest in those companies. This is stated in the website of UBG.

Interestingly, Geh Choh Hun is also the MCA Club Australia (MCACA) liaison officer as reported in The Star of June 25, 2005. In a photo gallery of MCACA, he is identified as the ‘adviser’.

Coincidentally, one of the directors of UBG is a “Low Taek Howe”. It is not clear whether he has any relation to a certain “Low Taek Jho”.The major shareholders of UBG are Javace Sdn Bhd and PetroSaudi International Ltd., Seychelles. There was a story on PetroSaudi in a recent edition of KiniBiz.

Malaysian stars face online criticism for attending pro-ruling coalition events
English.news.cn   2013-04-17 17:16:13

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Xinhua) — International movie star Michelle Yeoh and some other Malaysian stars are facing fierce criticism online for promising to attend pro-ruling coalition events in the run-up to the general election in May.

Yeoh’s attending of a mega-dinner, organized to show support for the ruling coalition National Front on Saturday, has triggered heated debate between her fans and opposition supporters in social networking sites.

The dinner will be held in the port city of Kelang of Selangor state, one of the five states that the ruling coalition lost in the last general election in 2008.

The actress, famous for her performance in a series of box- office hit movies including the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the Lady, was reportedly a daughter to a ruling party veteran.

Her father has urged the netizens to respect Yeoh’s decision.

Eric Moo, a Malaysia-born singer who now lives in China, was slammed for refusing to vote in the general election to be held on May 5. However, he has agreed to perform at a charity concert organized by a pro-government businessman on Saturday in Penang, another opposition-held state.

Saturday is the nomination day for the election, marking the start of the official campaign period towards the polling day.

Dr M: Chinese votes in BN’s bag as long as business chances exist

By Debra Chong,
Assistant News Editor
April 14, 2013

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — Economic stability and chances for business growth are valued by Chinese Malaysians and they will support the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) at the polls so long these are not at risk, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said in an interview published today.

Ahead of the 13th general elections, surveys and analyses by pundits have flagged the Chinese — who make up about 30 per cent of multiracial Malaysia’s 13.3 million electorate — as pro-oposition supporters, contrary to the former prime minister’s view.

“I think the Chinese would still value their opportunities in business. If you take an environment where they can succeed in business, they would be supportive of BN, which they did even when the BN introduced the New Economic Policy,” Dr Mahathir was quoted saying in the New Sunday Times.

“The NEP has in fact, benefitted the Chinese more than the Malays,” he added, referring to the controversial national affirmative action policy introduced in 1971 by second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, that aimed to close the economic gap between the Malays who were largely small-time farmers and Chinese who were into businesses.

When approached, several diners expressed gratitude for the food and said such lavish spending was possible only because the BN was not confident of recapturing Penang.

“Indeed, we are grateful to (caretaker) Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng because without him, we wouldn’t be enjoying all these,” said Suzie Wong, a former Gerakan member, who votes in Batu Lanchang.

“It’s really exciting. We should keep BN as the opposition so that we can have carnivals like these,” said a graduate student who only wanted to be known as “Bern”.

In Penang, election time is also party time

GE13 WATCH Since the dissolution of Parliament on April 3, Penangites have been partying on a daily basis, what with free food and beer, sexily-clad performers, cultural shows, lucky draws and cash donations.

The nightly events held at various locations around the island are the courtesy of BN coordinators, and the 1Malaysia-Penang Welfare Club, which blatantly supports Prime Minister Najib Razak.

NONEWhile claiming to be an independent entity, the presence of BN leaders and well-connected billionaire Low Teck Jho (second from left) at all its events have raised eyebrows as to the timing, purpose and source of funding for the NGO’s activities, which included handing over RM150,00 in cash aid to three organisations of journalists.

Federation expects record attendance during thanksgiving dinner

KUALA LUMPUR

BUSINESSMEN from Selangor will be holding a thanksgiving dinner in Port Klang on April 20 with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak as the guest of honour.

Organising committee member Datuk Phillip Siew said this was an annual event held either after Chinese New Year or at the end of the year, organised by the Federation of Chinese Descendents of Selangor .

“We planned this two weeks ago without knowing April 20 would be fixed as the nomination day.

“We initially expected a crowd of 20,000 to 30,000 but now at least 55,000 people are expected and we are going for the record — which is 51,000,” Siew said.

He said the dinner at the West Port Free Zone was not a fundraiser but purely a Chinese community event.

Tycoons sponsor pro-BN mega dinner on April 20
5:02PM Apr 12, 2013

A 5,500-table mega dinner sponsored by tycoons will be held on the night of nomination day in Klang to show the support of Selangor Chinese associations for caretaker Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and BN.

According to Sin Chew Daily, the dinner on April 20 can accommodate 55,000 people and it will be entered into the Malaysia Book of Records.

Due to its mammoth size, it can only be held at Port Klang Free Zone, said working committee co-chairperson Steven Lim, who is also the group managing director of Multimedia Entertainment Sdn Bhd group, during a press conference yesterday.

He said the dinner is jointly organised by Chinese associations in Selangor to express their support for Najib to continue leading the nation and recapture the Selangor state government from Pakatan Rakyat.

The organising committee co-chairpersons are prominent businessman Ta Kin Yan of Waz Lian Group chairperson and tycoon Abu Sahid Mohamed, who owns the highway concessionaire Maju Expressway (MEX) and who is also chairperson of Kinsteel Bhd, which owns Perwaja Holdings Berhad.

Other committee members are Orient Group of Companies chairperson Philip Siew, WHH Group executive chairperson Alex Chua and Ipmuda Berhad managing director Richard Lim.

Those attending include Najib, MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek and Ipoh-born international actress Michelle Yeoh.

Free dinners and money politics in Penang?

The BN has since last month been hosting free dinners for residents all around the island and the mainland.

Residents in the Bukit Bendera parliamentary constituency say the BN parties have been hosting these dinners on a daily basis in different localities, with some giving away free gifts in their efforts to regain support from Penangites.

Apart from the free dinners, 1Malaysia raffle tickets have been given out at several markets, with prizes worth RM500 for some 200 winners on a daily basis.

Word is that a well-connected businessman has been funding these activities, supposedly organised by NGOs or residents’ groups, and largely held in the Bukit Bendera parliamentary constituency under which three state seats fall – Kebun Bunga, Pulau Tikus and Tanjung Bungah.
……….
Pulau Tikus assemblyperson Koay Teng Hai said the BN dinners have been organised in his constituency by various groups masquerading as NGOs, with messages such as ‘Pure Love’ and showing open support for the BN candidate for Pulau Tikus, Rowena Yam.

“These dinners certainly have an agenda as they are doing these now, with the election on. Some people are definitely going to be influenced,” Koay told Malaysiakini.
