LEE CHONG WEI IS MALAYSIA’S ONLY WORLD CLASS BADMINTON PLAYER
Do we have to wait for his son, Kingston Lee, 1, to grow up before we have another?
KUALA LUMPUR, July 5:
National badminton star Datuk Lee Chong Wei is set to miss the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland after suffering a muscle tear.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin tweeted that he was told by the National Sports Institute of Malaysia that (ISN), “Lee has suffered a tear in one of his thigh muscles making him highly unlikely to compete at C’Wealth games.”
Lee was immediately apologetic for the injury and tweeted: “To @khairyKJ & everyone, I’m so sorry I could not try to break a 3rd champion in a row for Malaysia in Commonwealth Games. Sorry.
“I will be heading to hospital tomorrow (today) at 7am for an injection on my thigh muscles that was injured since the last Thomas Cup, which didn’t get any better.

Chong Wei grabs fifth Japan Open win in style

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei continued to show that Japan is one of his favourite hunting grounds after crushing Hu Yun of Hong Kong 21-14, 21-12 in just 34 minutes to nail his fifth Japan Open title in Tokyo. He was also the winner in 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2013. With his feat on Sunday, Chong Wei has underlined his status as the most successful player on Japanese soil since the tournament’s inception in 1984. In the final on Sunday, Chong Wei was hardly tested by the world No. 15 Hu Yun, who had earlier dumped two pre-tournament favourites – second seed Chen Long of China and third seed Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in the quarter-final and semi-final matches respectively. … Chong Wei’s three other Superseries title this year are the Malaysian Open, All-England and Indian Open. … Seu Bock is hoping that Chong Wei will continue with his fine run in the Indonesian Open starting on Wednesday in Jakarta. Chong Wei has won the Indonesian Open title for five times in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013 and hopes are high on him to add one more. http://www.thestar.com.my/Sport/Badminton/2014/06/15/Chong-Wei-grabs-fifth-Japan-Open-win-in-style/ —–

As usual, Chong Wei’s the last man standing
Mr Dependable: Lee Chong Wei showed no mercy to his Thai opponent, winning his Singapore Open quarter-final match in just 30 minutes on Friday. – AFP
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s hopes of a Singapore Open double were dashed when only world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei was left to hold the fort – as usual. While the 31-year-old Chong Wei bulldozed his way into the men’s singles semi-finals on Friday, his compatriots and national No. 1 men’s doubles pair Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong failed to follow suit after losing 16-21, 14-21 in just 29 minutes to Taiwan’s Lee Sheng-mu-Tsai Chia-hsin. Top seed and 2008 Singapore Open champion Chong Wei was not in the mood to fool around when he disposed of Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand 21-8, 21-14 in just 30 minutes in the quarter-finals. He will now take on India’s 20-year-old K. Srikanth, who is touted to be the country’s next big star. http://www.thestar.com.my/Sport/Badminton/2014/04/11/As-usual-Chong-Weis-the-last-man-standing/ — THE ALL ENGLAND The Star

Chong Wei recaptures All-England title (updated)
Lee Chong Wei sinks to his knees after winning the All-England men’s singles title, beating defending champion Chen Long in straight sets in the final on Sunday. – AFP
BIRMINGHAM: World No.1 Lee Chong Wei gave Chen Long a reminder just who is still the boss after a commanding performance to win his third All-England crown at the National Indoor Arena. The 31-year-old Chong Wei had previously lost to Chen Long in their last four meetings, including the All-England final last year. But Chong Wei, playing in his sixth straight All-England final, was in no mood for yet another defeat as he ramped up a 21-13, 21-18 win over the world No.2 from China. It was a superb display from Chong Wei who didn’t show any ill effects of that ankle injury that bothered him last week. He took the first game with relative ease as Chen Long struggled to contain Chong Wei’s rampant smashes. It was closer in the second game but Chong Wei had enough patience to finish off Chen Long in 59 minutes, before sinking onto his knees in joy. “I really played my best today and I’m really happy to win my third All-England title,” said Chong Wei. http://www.thestar.com.my/Sport/Badminton/2014/03/10/Chong-Wei-recaptures-All-England-title/ … THE ALL-ENGLAND BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS 2014 BIRMINGHAM: It was plain sailing for world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei and Chong Wei Feng in the first round of the All-England at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. Chong Wei surprised by Kajang rumours
National badminton ace Lee Chong Wei has reportedly expressed surprise over the suggestion that he be made MCA’s candidate for the Kajang by-election against opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim. According to Utusan Malaysia, Lee said that he wasn’t aware of the rumours that have been circulated over the past few days that Lee could stand in Kajang, since he is from Kajang and is seen as a candidate who can match up to Anwar in terms of popularity. The suggestion was first made by BN’s Padang Besar MP Zahidi Zainul Abidin two days ago. MCA itself did not respond negatively to the rumours, with its president Liow Tiong Lai not ruling out the possibility when met by reporters after the Chinese New Year open house by the party yesterday. However, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has issued a stern warning, saying that he would not allow Lee to be used for political purposes. “Don’t touch Lee Chong Wei. He is a national treasure. As the sports minister I do not allow it,” he said on his Twitter account. http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/253320 — Free Malaysia Today
Zahidi cadangkan Lee Chong Wei dipilih calon BN Kajang

Chong Wei wins Japan Open despite coach trouble

Top-seeded Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia shows off his gold medal and victory plate on the podium after his men’s singles final match win over Kenichi Tago of Japan at the Japan Open 2013 badminton tournament in Tokyo on September 22, 2013. Lee won 23-21, 21-17. AFP TOKYO (Sept 22, 2013): Malaysia’s world badminton number one Lee Chong Wei overcame the shock resignation of his coach to outlast Kenichi Tago of Japan 23-21, 21-17, in the Japan Open final Sunday. Rashid Sidek, who was not in Tokyo, resigned on Thursday as Malaysia’s singles coach. Sidek reportedly accused the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) over their treatment of national coaches following a recent management shake-up. “As a matter of course, this news had some impact on my performance mentally. It left me somewhat depressed,” Lee said through an interpreter after taking 55 minutes to tame Tago at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. Lee had been forced to survive three game points in the first stanza. “He (Rashid) is a fellow and coach with whom I have worked together for 10 years. Therefore, I feel very sorry that he is leaving,” the 30-year-old told a post-match news conference. Chong Wei wins Japan Open despite coach trouble — August 2013
