Barisan Nasional and its cronies and supporters have got used to doing everything and anything they like that the only recourse we have is to VOTE BN outside of power!

Three vehicles belonging to the Information Department were used to facilitate the opening of BN’s election command centre for the Batu parliamentary constituency in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
However, Malaysiakini’s attempt to obtain official comments on the possible abuse of government machinery were aggressively turned down by the organisers of the event.
The vehicles consisted of a SUV with loudspeakers mounted on the roof to broadcast speeches during the event. The other two were a SUV and a van parked nearby.
BN Batu information secretary Rodzi Tajudin directed Malaysiakini to speak to Suhaimi Yahya for comments, saying that he had organised the day’s proceedings.
Suhaimi (above) was seen speaking via a microphone bearing the Information Department logo.

The contemporary practice in Malaysia shows that many politicians are abusing public resources to promote their political agenda and their political parties.

COMMENT The Human Rights Promotion Association (Proham by its Malay acronym) calls on all politicians not to abuse use of public funds and facilities.
We also call for a higher benchmark of integrity and public accountability.
We view with concern the explanation by the Information, Communication and Culture Minister on the use of public funds and resources for campaigning purposes during election time.
The minister makes a clear demarcation on the use of public resources from nomination day but not during the period of being a caretaker government.
This matter came to public attention with the exposure in the media of the use of three vehicles belonging to the Information Department to facilitate the opening of BN’s election command centre for the Batu parliamentary constituency in Kuala Lumpur.
In contrast there was also a media report on the return of official cars by the chief minister of Penang and the state executive councillors, and their public commitment to use public facilities for only official state matters. They have decided to use their own cars for all non-official functions, which is commendable.
While there may be no explicit law prohibiting the use of public resources, there is however a moral and public accountability principle based on public opinion today in Malaysia, that there is a difference between political party work and the work of an elected government whether at the federal or state levels.

The caretaker Penang government has handed over the keys of its official cars to state secretary Farizan Darus, in accordance with the pledge of integrity.
Caretaker Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (left) handed over the keys of his car and those belonging to his deputies Mansor Othman and P Ramasamy, as well as those used by his state executive councillors.
“The official cars should not be misused for our own personal use or for the party and should be used only for state government purposes,” Lim told a press conference today.
