I noted the following as soon as I saw it:
(1) The English and punctuation were not up to standard for such an elitist organization.
(2) Why would such a secretive organization recruit by email?
(3) It looked like a version of the Nigerian scam.

When I looked at the email address, it had 666. I googled the

and the number was not 666 but 999.

“Invitation to the Great Illuminati” Spam Mail

Posted: April 14, 2014 by Christopher Boyd
Last updated: October 20, 2016

For a moment, I thought I’d woken up in a Dan Brown novel, but it turns out that spam can be mysterious too:

Your email was selected among the ten lucky people giving the opportunity of becoming rich and popular by joining the great Illuminati network for more details please contact email ([email] ) for more details.

In keeping with subject matter, the email doesn’t really go into further details. A quick Google of the subject matter confirms this is dropping into a lot of mailboxes right now.

But to find out the real deal we have to go back to March on the 419 Eater forum, where spam and scam emails are met with intentionally time-wasting responses to prevent them cheating regular web users out of their cash.

Things the scammers ask for in the 419 thread:

(Go to the link for the items:

“…as soon as you make the payment forward me the details so i can send it to them today ok. attached to this mail is my illuminati national identity ID card”

There’s top-secret and there’s this.

Don’t fall for it.

How I almost joined the Illuminati by answering an email

Posted on by carminerodi

Have you ever wondered what happens if you answer to those annoying spam emails? No, not the type about penis enlargement – that strangely enough, dropped to a minimum for me a couple of years ago. I suspect some algorithm knows I got married in 2015.

I am more talking about all those “you will get rich, famous, and whatever else – just send us a little bit of cash first”. I know – many of you are thinking: “come on now, who would be so stupid as to send money to a perfect stranger just because they claim in an email they can make our life better?”

Well, as it turns out: lots of people do, actually. Reportedly, it’s a global business worth more than 10 BILLION  US dollars (that’s right, “Billions” with a B) every year.

And at last, I got my opportunity when I found in the (spam) comments of my blog a particular message that was simply too good to ignore.

Absolutely brilliant. I loved everything about it!

There was a global conspiracy, a 10-points list, and a few details so random (the “one year golf membership package” or “access to Bohemian Grove“), it made my mouth water with endless fun potential.

So – I answered. I have to admit, I was a little nervous at first. Will I end in trouble?
