GUA MUSANG: The Kelantan Wildlife and National Parks Department today confirmed receiving another report on a tiger sighting at an Orang Asli settlement here.

Department director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said it received the report two days ago concerning a tiger sighting at the Pos Ber settlement.

Following the report, several rangers were dispatched to locate the tiger.

“I would like to confirm that we have received another report on a tiger sighting at an Orang Asli village in Pos Ber.

“For now, we cannot confirm whether the tiger is the same one that was spotted outside the gates of a school in Gua Musang recently.

“However, we strongly believe that it might be from another group,” he told NST.

A picture of the tiger entering the Orang Asli village in Pos Ber went viral a few days ago on social media. The picture is believed to have originated from the Facebook account belonging to an Orang Asli man from one of the settlements here.

Orang Asli settlements in Gua Musang have been rocked recently by tiger sightings in areas near the villages.

By Sharifah Mahsinah Abdullah – January 11, 2022 @ 6:38pm

KOTA BARU: Police today have confirmed that it received reports on a new tiger sighting at another Orang Asli school in Gua Musang recently.

Gua Musang police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the reports were on two tigers spotted outside SK Balar near Pos Bihai.

“The Orang Asli villagers as well as rangers from the state Wildlife and National Parks Department have informed us about the two-tiger sighting outside SK Balar.

“The wildlife rangers have been taking necessary action on the matter,” he said.

The picture of the two tigers was uploaded on Facebook recently by an individual believed to be a teacher from SK Balar.

The incident on tiger sighting was the second to have occurred in Gua Musang recently. The first was at SK Bihai also in Pos Bihai.

It was reported that the reopening of SK Bihai on Sunday had been postponed following the ongoing threat of tiger attacks in nearby areas.

The school, which was slated to begin its 2021/2022 Session 3 term on Jan 9, had instead opted to continue its online classes.

Last Friday, it was discovered that a male tiger had been on the prowl in the area, after it mauled and killed an Orang Asli man.

The night before, the tiger had pounced on several villagers at Kampung Sau near Pos Bihai.

Following the threats, 12 wildlife rangers had been deployed to the village to capture the tiger.
