JOHOR BARU: A civil servant pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to three charges of receiving bribes from a company in return to help secure projects for three events last year.
Nurul Hazlin Hashim, 37, was accused of receiving a total of RM26,800, through a bank account belonging to her, from the company as inducements to help secure the projects organised by the Johor Islamic Affairs Department (JAINJ).
Nurul Hazlin, an assistant officer at the department, was accused of committing the offences on three occasions between October 27 and November 4, 2019.
For all three offences, she was charged under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 which is punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read in front of Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Iamail.
MACC prosecuting officer Nur Mahirah Mohd Pauzi appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
The judge set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and ordered the accused to surrender her passport to the court.
He then fixed March 3 for mention of the case.
