Did former lawyer-slash-events manager turned Deputy Minister for Women, Family and Community Development, Hannah Yeoh, think she could make this far? “No,” she responded, smiling pensively, “But then May the 9th changed Malaysia, because in 2008 and 2013, although we won at the state level, a lot of people thought it was impossible to bring change to Putrajaya, that it was too difficult to dislodge a government that has been ruling for six decades, so they think Malaysia would never change either.”
But when the results were announced on that fateful day, it was a given that Malaysia would never think the same way again—there will be no hurdle that this nation would deem too big for it.

On the other hand, what is Nurul Izzah’s take on the new Malaysia? “I think the euphoria surrounding the change that took place after a six-decade one-party ruler has to, of course, be tampered with expectations,” she said bluntly. “We are handling a transition, managing the economy with excesses of the past. And we also need to know that Malaysia is made out of so many people and voters, so it’s important to focus on the nation-building aspect.”

It’s been 4 years since we published this interview with the daughters of our country’s former PM and his once-upon-a-time no.2. To say a lot has changed in our country since then would be an understatement — at the time when the interview was published, commenters were saying that we photo-shopped the pictures because they believed that there was no way these daughters would even be seen together in public. After all, their fathers were rivals.
Today, with Dr. Mahathir and PKR’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim once again working together as Pakatan Harapan chairman and adviser respectively, it seems more like we’ve come full circle. With signs of the impending General Elections looming, and Father’s Day tomorrow, JUICE has decided to run this piece as it originally appeared in the pages of our now-defunct brother-magazine CLIVE. If not for nostalgia, then at least as a reminder that politics is unparalleled to family.

Puteri’s ‘baby elephants’ slam Dyana

‘Baby elephants’? Well fed and well dressed, the very image of prosperous VIPs.
First Umno Wanita assistant secretary Rosni Sohar was reported calling Dyana Sofea Mohd Daud and her DAP Malay women colleagues “instant noodle leaders”.
Today Puteri Umno labelled Dyana as “YB kempunan” (wannabe YB).
The tag was given to Dyana, who is Lim Kit Siang’s political secretary, by Puteri Umno assistant treasurer Nazilah Ali, after hearing rumours of Puteri members being called “baby elephants”.
“There are those that compare Puteri with the ‘YB kempunan’ in Teluk Intan.
“There are those who say Puteri are ‘baby elephants’. But size doesn’t matter.
