Once upon a time, when Rosmah was reputedly the Most Powerful Woman in Malaysia but there might be no “happily ever after”…

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor is expected to formally answer charges of money laundering very soon, after probes that first began more than two years ago were revived.

The New Straits Times has learnt that investigators had, in recent days, tied up all the loose ends in their probe into the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

It is understood that they dusted off and resurrected the “Rosmah file” about three months ago, soon after the Barisan Nasional government fell. This particular investigation, like so many others before it, was linked to allegedly suspicious sources of funds connected to her husband that had earlier hit a brick wall.

This was about the same time that Rosmah was called to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters in Putrajaya in June for more than three hours.

THE ‘ROSMAH CASE’

According to those privy to the ongoing process to bring the 66-year-old to court, Rosmah, who was president of the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) from 2009 to when her husband was removed in the May general election, could be hit with up to 20 criminal charges, mostly linked to alleged money laundering.

The NST also learnt that one charge, in particular, could draw a lot of interest.

It involved the purchase of hormone-based anti-ageing products from the United States worth just over RM1 million.

It is understood that her presence at MACC back then was because investigators believed that funds from SRC were allegedly used to purchase the oral dietary supplements.

These supplements apparently could enhance growth hormone levels by more than 600 per cent, if consumed rigorously.

Those who swore by the products said they experienced a boost in energy levels, had better sleep, increased sex drive, decreased body fat, increased lean muscle mass and better skin complexion.

According to sources, the cheque payment of more than RM1 million was made out to a “Datuk” doctor in February 2015 for the purchase of two sets of medication worth in excess of RM500,000 each.

A similar account number, from records said to be from the probes that allegedly linked Najib to a now-closed AmIslamic account (Kuala Lumpur branch), was visible on the contentious cheque issued to the doctor.

The account was believed to have been closed weeks after the payment was made.

The doctor had supposedly, during questioning, volunteered that the cheque was made out for the purchase of “two sets of medication”.

Another product was a 100 per cent plant-based health food to stimulate the human body to maintain youth, vigour and vitality, supposedly with anti-ageing properties.

It is understood that a cheque from the same account for RM100,000 was allegedly made out, also in February 2015, to a company for construction work at a house in Taman Duta.

The home is the known address of Najib and his wife. The payment was supposedly for work done on the sentry post and a room, among others.

The NST has also learnt that the doctor, who was vice-president of a society linked to his area of expertise, had resigned from his position, ostensibly to avoid dragging the society into controversy.

HOW HIGHLY RANKED IS ROSMAH MANSOR NOW?

In 2013, the MCA-owned Star published an advert of Malaysia’s TOP TEN most powerful women. Rosmah Mansor, self-styled First Lady of Malaysia (FLOM), was ranked first.

It was an advert, and it wasn’t cheap, so you could spend endless hours debating over who could have paid for it and still not arrive at the answer.

Report: Rosmah was the main force in 1MDB dealings

Rosmah Mansor, the wife of Malaysia’s former prime minister, Najib Razak, is gearing up to be served with a litany of 1MDB embezzlement charges alongside her husband, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Unnamed sources, including local 1MDB investigators, family members, and one-time associates of the couple are now saying that it was Rosmah who played the central role in the funneling of billions for personal use via the sovereign wealth fund.

Published yesterday, the WSJ writes: “People who know Ms Rosmah say she helped orchestrate the alleged involvement of a young Malaysian financier who the US Justice Department says helped set up the 1MDB fund and then oversaw its looting.”

That young financier with a penchant for extravagant gifts and spending time on superyachts he claims he doesn’t own? None other than Penang’s Low Taek Jho, aka Jho Low.
.

Low’s entry into Najib’s sphere of influence was traced by the WSJ to a meeting with Rosmah more than 10 years ago, when the two shared neighboring residences in London. At the time, it is alleged that he was among one of several businessmen who gifted Rosmah with diamonds, luxury handbags, watches and more, hoping to curry favor with the most powerful woman in Malaysia.

Low’s time at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business (Donald Trump’s alma mater) enabled him to make connections with several prominent Middle East families, friendships he then used for Najib’s benefit, after convincing an Abu Dhabi state fund to invest in a Malaysian project. This was something that Najib later took credit for.

After this deal, Rosmah became what the WSJ calls “Low’s champion,” introducing him to Najib, who in turn gave him great leeway in 1MDB affairs.

Low was always on hand to ingratiate and bolster the ego of Malaysia’s former first lady: In 2010, he took at a two-page advertisement in The New York Times, welcoming Rosmah as she accompanied Najib on his first official US visit as PM.
.

According to the WSJ, it was Rosmah that was the main force behind all of Najib’s actions on 1MDB, a kind of power that would be admirable if it weren’t absolutely deplorable.

Indeed, some assigned so much influence to the self-styled FLOM that it was said that she even attended Cabinet meetings! Nga Kor Meng went as far as implying on Facebook that she had chaired a Cabinet meeting. He had to apologize.

“As a matter of goodwill, I hereby withdraw the comments attributed to the said picture and I undertake not to publish the same in the future.”

xpression of regret accepted

In turn, Najib’s counsel Hafarizam Harun read out a statement from the prime minister accepting Nga’s expression of regret.

Rosmah Mansor Exposed by Sarawak Report

July 9, 2015COMMENT: I am not going to be kind or hide behind sarcasm when it comes to Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the self-styled First Lady of Malaysia and dearly beloved wife of our smartest Prime Minister.

The Sarawak Report expose does not surprise me at all. She is known to be the real power behind the Malaysian Cabinet and key commission generating Ministries (like the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Defense).

Even the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew  made it a point to meet her during his last visit to Malaysia. When he was asked why he chose to pay her a courtesy call, Mr. Lee was reported to have said that to get business done in Malaysia she was an important figure behind Prime Minister Najib Razak. How perceptive, Mr. Lee.

I am not surprised that this role model of the Muslim Women Obediant Housewives Club who is without a job or a known business has been able to be extremely wealthy. All an ambitious woman must do is to emulate her and be married to Malaysia’s Prime Minister who condones corruption  and  alakazam money follows into her bank account(s) in a jiffy. Power or derived power corrupts and in her particular case absolute power without accountability corrupts absolutely.

Rosmah is the only housewife I know who has so much money that all her expensive birkin handbags cannot fill. It is unbelievable that our country can produce someone like her whose greed and ambition know no bounds.Lady Macbeth pales by comparison.
