If Isma were to be in charge of making advertisements, be prepared for companies to become bankrupt and close shop. No attractive woman will be used in the adverts, only old and ugly women would be shown.

Companies do and will expect advertising to produce returns, just like any other investment. We buy a product because the advert is actually a call to action. Old, ugly, diseased, and defective images do not sell. That is the bottom line.
.
For years, it was convenient for men (and some women) to blame women for inviting trouble because they did not cover-up and “tutup aurat”. So when will they acknowledge that it is NOT women who are at fault? Men are! It is time Malay mothers educated their sons to be more respectful of women.

In the west, the women do not dress as conservatively as the women in the Far East, Middle-East or Southeast Asia, but we do not find many western men outraging the modesty of these “scantily” clad women. Nor do the men openly grope cardboard cut-outs.

Isma should not descend into the blame game, but help those uneducated and ignorant men, to respect women. This should start when they are children.

Muslim group says Shell ad to blame for ‘exploiting’ women

Isma president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman advises men to lower their gaze in the presense of women and realise that God is watching them.

PETALING JAYA: Muslim group Malaysian Muslim Solidarity (Isma) has urged companies to learn from Shell’s “mistake” of using a woman model to sell its products and services.

This call comes in the wake of outrage expressed by several activists, politicians, and Shell itself over the circulation of pictures showing several individuals engaged in distasteful and suggestive behaviour with Shell’s promotional standee of a woman.

Speaking to FMT, Isma president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman said this was the outcome when some companies chose to “exploit” women.

“Using women to improve sales of goods and services is an exploitation of women which strays far from the value of purity accorded to Muslim women,” he said. “Let this act as a lesson to other companies in the future.”

While many had thrown their support behind 25-year-old Shell employee Nor Shafila Khairusalleh, the face of the standee, Zaik said she was not completely blameless.

He said a Muslim woman should not accept the offer to become a model to help a company in its sales efforts, even if she was allowed to wear a scarf and cover up.

He said it was “natural” for men to be aroused when looking at women, but did not excuse the actions of the men.

“They should lower their gaze and be careful of their actions. What these men did shows moral decadence.

KUALA LUMPUR: A man who courted controversy after “molesting” a life-sized promotional standee at a Shell station here has apologised.

The man, who identified himself as Shahril Azmi Abdul Shukor or Abang Shahril, posted a four-minute video on Facebook admitting that he had gone overboard by kissing the standee.

“I humbly apologise over my actions against Nor Shafila Khairusalleh. I admit I crossed the line.

“If I were in her shoes, I would have felt the same way,” he said.

Shahril said the picture of him kissing the standee which had been shared in a WhatsApp group was only meant as a joke, adding that he had not expected it to go viral.

“I also wish to apologise to her husband and family members over this incident.

‘Molest’ of model: Shell to remove standee at its stations

July 3, 2017

This follows pictures of men engaging in distasteful acts with the cardboard figures at petrol stations.

KUALA LUMPUR: The life-size promotional standee of a woman, placed at Shell retail stations, will be removed with immediate effect.

This follows the circulation of pictures of several individuals photographed engaging in distasteful and suggestive behaviour with the promotional standee.

Shell, in a statement, said they were aware of this.

“We do not condone the disrespectful acts, which are completely against the culture of Malaysians and Shell’s core values.

“We urge netizens and members of the public to refrain from sharing these images further.

“The standee will be removed from all our sites with immediate effect,” it said in the statement.

Don’t go overboard, says Shell model

PETALING JAYA: A woman has expressed regret at the antics of a group of men who were pictured kissing and doing other things to life-sized cardboard cutouts of herself placed at Shell petrol stations nationwide.

The images, which have gone viral on social media, have angered many people who have accused the men of being obscene and sexist.

Nor Shafila Khairusalleh, 25, said she had not expected the “standees” of herself, which were meant to brighten up the stations, to attract such behaviour.

“If they did things like putting their hands over the eyes, pulling at the nose or hugging the cutout, I can still accept that because it’s just a poster.

“But I think it is going overboard if it points towards sexual behaviour.
