Rape suspect escapes from police custody in Beluran
KOTA KINABALU: A police manhunt is underway for a rape suspect who escaped police custody in Beluran two days ago.
Prior to his escape, police had brought the 29-year-old suspect Nasrudi Ambo, who was arrested on Feb 20, back to his home where the alleged rape took place.
Nasrudi and policemen had left the Beluran police lock-up at about 3pm.
After getting the evidence needed by the policemen, the suspect told them that he needed to break fast as he was fasting on that day.
He was cuffed from behind but police switched it to the front so that he could eat, and police then left him alone in the car when they went to buy water for him from a nearby sundry shop after he told police that he was thirsty.
Beluran police chief Supt Sivananthan V said the policemen returned to find the man missing.

Handcuffed and escorted by three policemen, they travelled in a police car and went to pick up a jacket at the suspect’s home in Kampung Perancangan, Nangoh at 3.30pm.
The suspect was said to be still in handcuffed and was last seen running towards an oil palm plantation nearby.
