FELDA Super-Scandal Emerges As The New 1MDB Times Ten..
The new Chairman of FELDA, Shahrir Abdul Samad, was one of the people exposed for having received a big fat million ringgit cheque from Najib’s slush fund accounts, for which he has yet to give an explanation.
Najob moved quickly therefore to bring this UMNO backbench Chairman back to heel when he appeared to stray over weekend, after being appointed to head the plantation fund (instead of an objective business leader, which was plainly needed).
To begin with, Samad had clearly decided that he did not want to end up the figurehead of the next 1MDB scandal (times ten on the Richter Scale). Therefore, unlike Arul Kanda, he decided to cry foul rather than covering up and on Saturday went public with his concerns that RM4.3 billion of FELDA famers’ money cannot be properly accounted for.
It didn’t last long. One assumes it took a far larger cheque to get Samad to change his tune, but by Sunday evening the party stalwart had denied his earlier reported statement, rattling out a list of unbelievably expensive global investments to apparently explain where all the money went.

Now Shahrir says Felda didn’t lose RM4.3b as reported
.
Felda chairperson Shahrir Abdul Samad today clarified that the agency had not lost RM4.3 billion as reported.
The Johor Bahru Member of Parliament said he has a list of how the RM4.3 billion was utilised, namely for long-term investment, both here and abroad.
“No money is lost. From the RM6 billion received when Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd was listed, we spent RM1.7 billion for Felda settlers to pay each family RM15,000.
“The balance of RM4.3 billion was used for various reasons. Felda made one-off payments to the governments of Sabah (RM300 million), Pahang RM250 million, housing loan for Felda settlers RM400 million, management expenses RM883 million plus investments in property, both here and foreign countries, to buy shares and many others,” he said.
Shahrir was commenting on reports in a number of news portals that claimed RM6 billion received by Felda after the FGVH listing has not been accounted for.

COMMENT Felda chairperson Shahrir Samad’s latest revelation is a prelude to yet another scandal affecting the nation.
If left unchecked, scandals involving billions of ringgit will continue to deplete the country’s coffers; therefore, efforts must be stepped up by Shahrir, the Auditor-General’s Office and the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) to put a stop to the scandals.
However, the RM2.6 billion question is – will Shahrir survive to see the scandal coming out in the open? Will the MACC be reined in before they could make any further arrests? Both Shahrir and the MACC have the support of the rakyat who are keen to see the culprits being punished for their involvement in the scandals.
This case, coupled with a number of other high-profile cases, have made us appear to be a nation of kleptocrats, as spelt out by the US Department of Justice in its civil suit to recover some US$1 billion suspected to be siphoned out of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds.
My suspicion is that Shahrir will be pressured to resign on his own accord or he will be sacked unceremoniously from the job as Felda’s newly-appointed chairperson. This is after he highlighted the missing billions in Sinar Harian, confirming the suspicion raised earlier by Pandan lawmaker Rafizi Ramli.

Shahrir questions where RM4.3b from FGV had gone

Newly-minted Felda chairperson Shahrir Abdul Samad has questioned how RM4.3 billion in proceeds from Felda Global Ventures’ initial public offering (IPO) had been spent.
“Felda received RM6 billion from the listing of FGV… From this amount RM1.7 billion was spent as windfall (for settlers).
“We paid RM15,000 each to the household of settlers and the remainder amounted to RM4.3 billion.
“So where has this RM4.3 billion gone to?” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
Sharir said this lingering question had caused disappointment among Felda settlers.
