Pahang mufti didn’t mean kafirs can be killed, says Umno Youth
Pahang mufti Abdul Rahman Osman did not mean that non-Muslims can be killed when he used the term kafir harbi, said an Umno Youth leader.
Umno Youth exco Fathul Bari Mat Jahya said the mufti had instead meant a war of minds.
“He told me he didn’t mean it was permissible to kill (non-Muslims), he meant harbi in the sense of a jihad against a way of thinking, or ideology,” Fathul Bari said at a forum in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan last night.
Abdul Rahman had previously clarified that fighting kafir harbi did not require weapons or bloodshed.
“As Muslims, we have the responsibility to declare jihad against kafir harbi. But in this context, jihad does not necessarily mean picking up weapons and going to war.
“In this case, jihad means we just declare war against their ideology through debate and argument,” The Star also quoted the mufti saying on June 29.
The mufti also told the English daily that it is absurd to wage war against non-Muslims in a multicultural country like Malaysia.

Pahang mufti: Kit Siang, Guan Eng should convert for unity
Abdul Rahman Osman also says that while he was not forcing non-Muslims to do so, he urged them to embrace Islam so they can be safe in the afterlife.
PETALING JAYA: Pahang Mufti Abdul Rahman Osman, who sparked controversy by likening DAP to kafir harbi, wants to invite Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng, both of DAP, to convert to Islam “for unity.”
In a report by the Star Online today, Rahman stressed that while he was not forcing non-Muslims to embrace Islam, he urged them to do so anyway in order to also be “safe in the afterlife.”
“There will be no more chaos and we can focus on development,” he was quoted as saying.

Niz Aziz and kafir harbi, an enemy of the Islamic faith that can be killed…
…
So Nik Aziz was also working with ‘enemies of Islam’?

…
YOURSAY | ‘Haron Din, how can an Islamic party befriend a corrupt party?’
Utusan Malaysia: Mahathir working with enemies of Islam

Anonymous #19098644: Would PAS spiritual adviser Haron Din care to explain why PAS, of which he is the ulama head, was a partner of the party that he calls the enemy of Islam for eight years until they fell out in 2015, when PAS started to suck up to the corrupt Umno regime?
How can an Islamic party befriend a corrupt party?
Ah-hah: The late Nik Aziz Nik Mat, who was PAS spiritual advisor, was good friends with many non-Muslims, be they political allies from the ranks of DAP and PKR to leaders of other religions to NGO leaders and ordinary rakyat.
Were any of them “enemies of Islam” in Haron’s eyes? Specifically, what about DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang and the late chairperson Karpal Singh? Did Nik Aziz “become just like them”?
Instead of building bridges, Haron is hell-bent on the opposite. As a result, he is causing an ever widening gulf between his brand of Islam (and the PAS of today) and non-Muslims as well as more fair-minded Muslims.
Aziz Kader: Haron, are you saying those who abuse power and are corrupt are friends of the Muslims and those against power abuse and corruption are enemies of Islam?
Or do you consider all non-Muslims as enemies of Islam? Or those not in favour of PAS’ leadership? Former spiritual adviser Nik Aziz was also working with DAP, so do you classify him as an enemy of Islam, too?
It is shocking just how narrow-minded and myopic Haron is showing himself to be.
SWOT Strategist: Malaysia is infested with so many narrow-minded religious bigots and hypocrites. They are truly blinded to even understand the basic human principle of what is right or wrong.
With leaders so glamorously tainted with mega-scale corruption, persistent incompetence, continued abuses, unjust discriminatory actions and cruelty, a noble multiracial party has become the enemy to their Islamic faith.
Jaguh: So all non-Muslims are enemies of Islam? Hello, have you got the right message? No wonder all the poor rural folk in the heartlands are brainwashed by your insidious articles.

No minister will speak out against Pahang mufti, muses Kit Siang
No BN minister is likely to speak out against the Pahang mufti’s ‘kafir harbi’ declaration against those who are opposed to PAS’ implementation of hudud.
DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang expressed his skepticism today following an outcry over the mufti’s statement last week, over which Prime Minister Najib Razak was slammed for remaining silent.
“The BN supreme council should be convened to declare the BN stand on the […] ‘kafir harbi‘ statement, which not only violates BN policy and consensus, but threatens the unity and solidarity of the Malaysian Federation especially with reference to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 […]
“[This] apart from being a most contemptuous disregard of 59 years of Malaysian nation building and the fundamental Rukunegara principle in upholding the rule of law,” said Lim in a statement today.
“This does not appear to be likely, as not a single minister, not even the prime minister and deputy prime minister, has demanded that the Pahang mufti […] must retract his seditious and incendiary ‘kafir harbi‘ statement.
“Who will be the first ministers to speak up to repudiate and completely dissociate from the […] statement?” mused Lim, who is Gelang Patah MP.

Mufti’s ‘can be slain’ label of DAP too much even for Perkasa
…
Pahang Mufti Abdul Rahman Osman’s labelling of DAP as kafir harbi – enemies of Islam that can be slain – has even surprised right wing Malay rights group Perkasa, which regards DAP as its sworn enemy.
Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali said he disagreed with the label and even asked the mufti to correct his statement.
“Perkasa is of the opinion that the Pahang mufti’s statement about DAP being kafir harbi is quite overboard,” he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
Ibrahim noted that Perkasa had always disagreed with DAP but couldn’t agree with the notion that they can be killed.
“Perkasa has always disagreed with DAP’s politics. This is not new and we all know about DAP.
“But as much as we may disagree with DAP, what the Pahang mufti is saying can cause misunderstanding amongst non-Muslims towards Islam,” he said.
Ibrahim urged Abdul Rahman to make things right.
“It would be best for the Pahang mufti to correct this.
“He can voice disagreement or condemn DAP but he should not make such specific accusations that could confuse people’s views towards Islam,” he said.

Another Ramadan slander by a mufti?
Could the inspector-general of police (IGP) please tell us Malaysians if this mufti has not committed any offence for inciting people to kill those he has labelled kafir harbi?
What this mufti did is nothing short of what the Islamic State (IS) is doing – ordering their followers to kill people, even Muslims, who do not follow the Islam of the IS.

‘Huge sin’ to work with ‘haram’ DAP, Pahang mufti warns Muslims
KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — Pahang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Rahman Osman claimed that it was a “huge sin” for Muslims to cooperate with the DAP after the party opposed hudud and PAS’ Bill to enhance Shariah courts’ punitive powers.
Umno-linked daily Utusan Malaysia also reported Abdul Rahman as urging former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to quit working with the predominantly Chinese opposition party.
“We see that DAP was totally against the implementation of hudud and the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendment) Bill 2016.
“Their principles are clearly in hatred of Islam and it’s a huge sin for Muslims to work with them,” Abdul Rahman was quoted saying.
…
Abdul Rahman previously refused to apologise to the DAP over the state religious department’s Aidiladha sermon last September that claimed it was against Islam to join the party.
The Pahang cleric had also accused the DAP of meddling in Islam over its opposition to PAS’ plans to enforce hudud, a harsh Islamic penal code that provides for punishments like the amputation of limbs and death by stoning, in Kelantan.
Abdul Rahman reportedly told Dr Mahathir yesterday to seek forgiveness from God.
“PAS made a mistake before by associating with the DAP before they realised that that party is an enemy of Islam. I hope that Dr Mahathir increases ‘istighfar’ and stops working with the DAP,” he said, using the Arabic phrase that means the act of seeking forgiveness from God.

You are not a politician, Penang exco reminds Pahang mufti

…
A Penang state executive councillor has reminded Pahang mufti Abdul Rahman Osman that he is a respected religious leader and not a politician.
Rahman should be more circumspect in making statements, the exco in charge of Islamic religious affairs, domestic trade and consumer affairs in Penang, Abdul Malik Abul Kassim, said.
Referring to Rahman’s statement that DAP is kafir harbi or an enemy of the Islamic faith that can be killed out of hand, Malik went on to express regret at what he sees as a politically-toned lambast from a state mufti.
“I think the statement confuses the Muslim community, for in my view, in order to issue such a proclamation as a mufti, he should have proper reasons.
“I see in this statement as if he is talking in political tones. A mufti shouldn’t talk in political tones,” Malik said at a press conference, a video clip of which was uploaded on the state organ Buletin Mutiara.
“As a politician it is different as one can say anything, right?” he asked rhetorically.
“But as a mufti, it is like a judge, they must maintain decorum and set boundaries. I hope in this matter it won’t happen again,” argued the Batu Maung assemblyperson.
Malik said that Rahman’s statement seemed more politically tinged as it seemed to be aimed at former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for supposedly working together with DAP.

MCA response to Pahang Mufti over ‘Kafir Harbi’ statement
Published below in full is a statement by the MCA Religious Harmony Bureau Chairman.
“Kafir harbi” profiling can lead to frenzy killings; Clerics must not exploit religious authority for politicking
It is regrettable that the Mufti of Pahang ie Mufti Dato’ Sri Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Haji Osman should preach or imply that anyone or group of fellow Malaysians can be slain during this holy fasting month of Ramadhan when restraints and refrain should be exercised.
At a time whereby the Police are facing threats by daish, it is highly “unbecoming” of the revered Mufti of a state to increase confusion about Islam and its highly profound and fine teachings.
Simplistic branding or politicking should not be the realms of Muftis whose office is revered with heavy responsibilities.
The said Mufti ought to realise that any statements made by his office ie “DAP (or anyone) is against the implementation of Islamic principles, and therefore falls under the category of “kafir harbi” (Malaysiakini, 24 June 2016) has far reaching consequences.
Moreover his statement is more political than religious.
This is the problem when clerics confuse themselves and cross the line of politicking by using religious authority.
Societal harmony & peace doomed when blood is shed
At a time whereby the Police have been targeted by daish, it is highly irresponsible for the said Mufti to add fuel or confusion on possible wayward followers by implying that anyone’s blood is holy or can be spilled.
This is scary.
This can lead to “frenzy killings.”
This is a threat to security.
This is not the Islam we all know in Malaysia.
We all grew up in Malaysia with respect for Islam as a religion of peace.
It is highly irresponsible for any individual more so if he is of institutional standing to declare that someone or a group of people’s blood are to be or can be spilled.
Where will this advocacy of “blood” end ? Will there be more wayward killings hereafter?
If PAS can label Umno as “Kafir” and today the Pahang Mufti is labelling DAP and others opposed to the PAS Private Member’s Bill to amend the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 as “kafir harbi,” , then we are a lost nation.
We should have a law to control or contain or check on such seditious statements.
Let us be reminded that Islam is about peace. Islam is about tolerance. Islam’s emphasis is not on violence or the spilling of someone’s blood in Malaysia.
We are not at war. We are a peaceful, harmonious, democratic nation.
The Mufti must be more mindful and taken to task for his statement.
He cannot be invincible.
