DPM: Jamal Yunos not against non-Malays, cares for all
SUNGAI BESAR, Aug 31 ― Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today defended Umno division chief Datuk Jamal Md Yunos over allegations of being against non-Malays, saying the leader of the “Red Shirts” movement was fair to all communities.
Speaking at the Sungai Besar Umno division meeting here, the Umno acting deputy president said he had personally witnessed Jamal’s efforts in helping the Chinese and Indians in the constituency.
“I have seen with my own eyes; Datuk Jamal, although he is branded as being anti non-Malays, in reality he isn’t like that. He is also fair to the non-Malays,” Zahid said.

Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua today responded to Jamal Md Yunos’ demand for proof that he had uttered the words “Cina babi” (Chinese pigs).
At a press conference in DAP’s Sekinchan office this morning, he played a video clip of the Sungai Besar Umno chief, taken a day after the red shirt rally in Kuala Lumpur last year.

On ‘Cina Babi’ accusation, Jamal demands proof

…
Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos has challenged those who accused him of uttering the words “Cina Babi (Chinese pigs)” to provide evidence.
He said clear proof must be presented since the issue had also been used on billboards to influence Chinese voters for Saturday’s by-election.
“Prove the allegation, if there is a video (of me making the remark), make it viral,” he was quoted as saying by the BN Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) website.
Jamal also called on those who spread the slander against him to apologise or face legal action.
The Umno man said a police report had been filed, and he would initiate legal proceedings if the parties involved refused to apologise.
“I have denied ever making such a remark, which has been made into a huge issue. To me, this is an extreme form of provocation. I want them to apologise,” he added.
…
Jamal was accused of making the derogatory remark during the controversial red-shirt rally in Kuala Lumpur last year.
The gathering was held after photographs of participants at the earlier Bersih rally stomping on images of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang emerged.

‘Cina babi’ billboard becomes talk of Malay voters in Sg Besar

…
SG BESAR POLLS DAP’s billboard highlighting Umno leader Jamal Md Yunos’ ‘Cina babi’ remark may have been short-lived as the Election Commission (EC) quickly removed them but it has become a talking point among the Malay community in Sungai Besar.
Not many people were able to see the billboard with their own eyes but most have heard it through word of mouth or watched it on television.
The billboard was targeted at Chinese voters in Sekinchan, which also included other billboards about the 1MDB scandal.
While DAP tried to whip up Chinese support for Parti Amanah Negara, the billboards risk alienating Malay voters who do not favour in-your-face kind of campaigning.
Some Malay voters interviewed by Malaysiakini expressed disapproval.
One BN supporter, trader Ismail Yahya, was livid when asked about the billboards.
…
However, not everyone took offence to it as some were even unclear of what happened.
Darmin Mokri, who saw the news on television said he wasn’t actually quite sure what the billboards were about, and was unable to comment on them.
…
Whether or not this short lived gamble to whip up Chinese support will pay off or backfire remains to be seen.
Malay voters make up 67 percent of Sungai Besar’s 42,655 voters, Chinese 31 percent, Indians 1.8 percent, and others 0.2 percent.
In the 2013 polls which BN won with a razor-thin majority of 399 votes, PAS, then still with Pakatan Rakyat, got 38 percent of the Malay votes and 76 percent of the Chinese votes.
Amanah communications chief Khalid Samad said the party aims to get 32 percent of the Malay vote, and 68 percent of the Chinese vote, amounting to about 40 percent of the total vote.

Ketua Umno bahagian Sungai Besar Jamal Md Yunos membidas sesetengah pihak yang membesar-besarkan isu peserta himpunan ‘baju merah’ melaungkan pelbagai slogan termasuk ‘Cina babi’.
Katanya, istilah tersebut sepatutnya tidak perlu diperbesarkan kerana babi hanya sensitif kepada orang Melayu, sedangkan tidak bagi Cina kerana ia makanan mereka.

‘Cina gila babi’ not a slur since Chinese eat pork, #Merah169 leader says
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — A spokesman for the #Merah169 rally has downplayed the “Cina gila babi (crazy Chinese pig)” insult hurled at a reporter yesterday, saying that the Chinese should feel no slight in the remark since they consume pork.
Umno leader Datuk Jamal Md Yunos further argued that the remark was only insulting to the Malays, as Muslims were forbidden from eating pork.
Don’t make that an issue, for Malays the word pig is sensitive.
“But for the Chinese what is the problem? It is their food,” Jamal told a news conference here.
Jamal heads the so-called Coalition of Malay NGOs responsible for the “Red Shirt” aspect of the rally as well as its alternate “Himpunan Maruah Melayu (Malay Dignity Rally)” name.
Yesterday’s protest was marred by sporadic outbreaks of racism, with one attendee recorded calling a reporter “Crazy Chinese pig”, among other insults.

‘What’s wrong with Cina Babi, Chinese eat pork’, Jamal Yunos says https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/312628

Sungai Besar Umno division leader Jamal Md Yunos has offered a gastronomic argument to counter claims that the term ‘Cina Babi‘ (Chinese pig) is insulting to the Chinese community.
Asking all quarters not to exploit the matter, he said the term ‘babi‘ is only offensive to Malays, as consuming pork is forbidden in Islam.
“You need to listen to the whole thing, not just a few words. Don’t make that (Cina Babi) an issue; for Malays the word pig is sensitive.
“But for the Chinese what is the problem? It is their food,” he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
He was responding to questions on protesters at yesterday’s red shirt rally using the term on Chinese reporters.
