Ramesh Rao lodges report against Mkini over ‘false’ second SD http://dlvr.it/LXLlCg

…
Pertubuhan Minda dan Sosial Prihatin (PMSP) president Ramesh Rao lodged a police report against Malaysiakini today over an article concerning the second statutory declaration (SD) that was allegedly made by programmer Azharuddin Othman.
“I’ve made a police report today against Malaysiakini because there are some contradictions (in their article).
“There are two different sentences. At first, they said the person who made the first SD had come forth, which made it seem like he was the one who approached Malaysiakini with the SD.
“After that, Malaysiakini spin back, and (edited it to say) ‘today he allegedly came forth’.
“These are two different sentences which can cause the rakyat to be confused,” Rao said to reporters after lodging the report at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters.
He added that the news which was originally published, will usually be considered what’s “right”, and that in the comments, people would assume that the news portal had been pressured into changing the sentence.
His contention was specifically with the Malay version of the article and the word “allegedly” (didakwa) which was only added to the first paragraph of the story later, he said.
As such, Rao said he lodged the report so that the police as well as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will look into the matter.
In his police report, he also erroneously attributed the article to Malaysiakini photographer Lim Huey Teng.
In the original article mentioned, Malaysiakini had included a denial of the second SD from Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, who had helped organise the first SD for Azharuddin.
In a text message, he had described the new SD as “slander by Mahathir’s team”.

Man alleging fraud in Citizens’ Declaration makes U-turn
Programmer who last month alleged he sold 900,000 signatures to the Save Malaysia Movement, has now penned a second SD retracting his first one.
…

…
PETALING JAYA: The programmer who last month alleged fraud in the Citizens’ Declaration petition is now singing a different tune.
Azharuddin Othman has purportedly made a second Statutory Declaration (SD) retracting his first one (which alleged the fraud), citing “mistakes” in the latter, a report in news portal Malaysiakini said.
In the original SD, Azharuddin had alleged that he sold a database of 900,000 names to Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah aka Ratu Naga, to be provided to the Citizens’ Declaration.
The latest SD is being circulated in several Facebook pages, such as Otai Bersih and Kelab Mukhriz Mahathir, said the report.
He said he signed the new document to avoid legal action, and that it was done willingly and without coercion.
“I would like to state that I do not know the person known as Ema (Ratu Naga) and never had any dealings with her.
“Before this, I was hired to hold a press conference based on the text given by the person who hired me, which is Badrul Hisham Shaharin (Chegubard),” he said. The SD bore a commissioner of oath’s stamp based in the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya, said the report.
The portal contacted Badrul Hisham, who claimed the new SD was fake.

“Ratu Naga has already denied this and declared she does not know the accuser. The secretariat does not know Ratu Naga either and she was never involved with us,” Kamaruddin told Malaysiakini.
He willl reveal more in the statement on Monday, he added.
The secretariat’s issuance of a statement on Monday, was also separately confirmed by Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah (photo), its past chairperson and lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan, and spokesperson for the NGO, Challenger, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
The secretariat had a meeting earlier today.

KUALA LUMPUR: The man who claims to have sold the database containing the names and identity card numbers of Malaysians to individuals behind the Citizens’ Declaration may have breached the Official Secrets Act 1972 (OSA).
At a press conference today, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim said he believed that MyKad data was protected under the OSA.
“Spreading any information under the OSA is a crime,” he said, when asked to comment on reports of a man named Azharuddin Othman@Abdullah who admitted to selling the data of some 900,000 Malaysians for the petition aimed at removing Prime Minister Najib Razak from office.
“If Azharuddin’s claims are true, we will certainly carry out investigations,” he said at the press conference during a visit by senior police officials to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre in conjunction with the 209th Police Day celebrations.

‘Dragon queen’ fumes over buying names charge, to file police report

…
The freelance programmer, who implicated a woman known online as ‘Ratu Naga’ (Dragon Queen), in his claim concerning selling names for the Citizens’ Declaration, appears to have incurred her wrath.
In a Facebook post, the woman warned: “He’s asking for it…”
“(He thinks) I will remain silent? No, let me fight back,” she said in response to Azharuddin Othman’s statutory declaration (SD), which was revealed at a press conference this afternoon.
Claiming to have been slandered, ‘Ratu Naga’ said she wanted to meet the person who accused her and make him swear that he knew her.
It is learned that Ratu Naga, who was identified as Ema in the SD, would file a police report on the matter tomorrow.
In February, Ema, whose real name is Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, was charged under the Communications and Multimedia Act for posting an alleged defamatory status against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on the Facebook account Ratu Naga.

‘I sold database for 900,000 signatories for Deklarasi Rakyat’
Man claims only 300,000 of the signatures were not from his list.

…
KUALA LUMPUR: A man has come forward claiming he had “sold” a database containing about 900,000 names and MyKad numbers for the Citizens’ Declaration
The man, Azharuddin Othman@Abdullah, was today brought by the Declaration opponent, former Rembau PKR chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard.
Azharuddin produced a copy of a statutory declaration claiming he was approached by a woman who used the nickname “Ratu Naga” on Facebook.
Azharuddin claimed that only 300,000 of the 1.2 million signatures were not from his list.
The rest of the names were from the electoral database which he, as a part-time computer programmer, had used in his work with political parties for elections.
“On April 27, 2016, I was contacted by Ratu Naga to buy the Malaysian citizens’ database to help gather 1.2 million signatures for the Citizens’ Declaration, supported by Tun Mahathir (Mohamad).
“She had prior knowledge that I had a massive database of information on millions of Malaysians which could be suited for various needs and requirements,” he told a press conference at a restaurant in Lembah Pantai today.
Azharuddin claimed the woman offered RM 5,000 for information from the database and told him that Mahathir did not want his name to be involved in the project.
However, he said he was only paid RM1,000 last month. He said he had copies of his WhatsApp communication between himself and Ratu Naga.
