KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 — DAP MP Liew Chin Tong today posted on social media an unsigned statutory declaration (SD) purportedly lobbying for Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s promotion to the post of prime minister, just hours after an Umno lawmaker rubbished claims that such a plan existed.
The Kluang MP posted snapshots of the three-page document on his Facebook page along with the message in Bahasa Malaysia, “The SD attached here is for the attention of Tajuddin Abdul Rahman”.
The document states among others the signee’s loss of confidence in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and all the members of his federal Cabinet, and calls for their resignations.
“We need a leader that is respected and accepted by the majority in the Dewan Rakyat. I hereby declare my full confidence in Gua Musang Member of Parliament YB Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to be the next Malaysian Prime Minister,” it adds.
Malay Mail Online has not been able to verify the authenticity of the SD, who has received it and whether any lawmaker has signed it.
When approached in Parliament for details, Liew declined to comment, telling Malay Mail Online he would first wait for a response from Tajuddin or Tengku Razaleigh.
Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, an Umno deputy minister, was earlier today quoted on Malaysiakini as accusing Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad of spreading tales that Tengku Razaleigh and several other Umno lawmakers were part of a so-called plot to unseat Najib via a no-confidence vote in the Dewan Rakyat.
“I didn’t see anything being circulated. Not at all. Even my friends and colleagues, other MPs from Umno and BN didn’t talk about this. I should know if there was, but there wasn’t.
“These are all stories created by Mahathir,” the deputy minister reportedly told the news portal.
