JPJ will not summons official vehicles for speeding if accompanied by police outriders

…
KEPALA BATAS: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will not summons official government vehicles which exceed the speed limit if they are accompanied by police outriders, said its director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad.
He said this was because the department was confident it would be safe condition as they were accompanied by police who were experienced and well-versed about road safety.
“On the statement by (Deputy Home Minister) Datuk Nur Jazlan (Mohamed), it actually refers to government vehicles, especially for ministers and deputy ministers who are accompanied by the police, so JPJ does not see an issue over this.
“The procedure of the JPJ is, regardless of who it is, action will be taken if road safety laws are broken, including driving beyond the permitted speeds, but we understand that sometimes the minister and deputy minister needs to move fast to arrive at their destination for official reasons,” he said.

Official Government Cars Not Summoned For Exceeding Speed Limit – Nur Jazlan
KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 (Bernama) — Official government vehicles will not be summoned if they are driven at speeds exceeding the maximum allowed while going for official government functions, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.
He said if there was a need for the official government cars to move fast for official government functions, the matter could be informed to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
“There are exceptions to the rule. Sometimes if we have to hurry up for a function, we speed…We try to follow the traffic rule but it can be excused for official functions,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby, here Thursday.
However, he said if the summons is issued in the personal capacity of the driver or owner of a private car, then the individual must settle the summons personally.
“If there is a summons on me for speeding, then I pay personally,” he said.

“For instance, vehicles escorting the Prime Minister are driven at high speed for security reasons,” he said, adding that there was no need for a review on traffic laws for such exemptions.
