Gambling using their PTPTN loans
LOCAL university students have been found to be grappling with addiction and resorting to gambling using their PTPTN education loans in the hope that they could get high returns from the slot machines, reported Harian Metro.
The gambling activities among the students are reported to be rampant due to an increase of gambling slot machines outlets near the students’ housing area in Taman Cempaka and Rokam in Ipoh.
A check found that at least five Internet cafes had hundreds of such machines.
The two most famous machines were the Funky Monkey and the Kimochi.
The gambling dens were packed with students especially during school holidays.
A 21-year-old student, who wanted to be known as Bob, said he was addicted and he did not feel guilty using his PTPTN loan to gamble as others were also doing the same.
“Many students love the Funky Monkey game as they only pay RM1 and if they are lucky, they could win as much as RM800. As for Kimochi, you pay RM10 and the return could be thousands of ringgit,” he said.
