SINGAPORE – A Whatsapp message spreading rumours that a national security lockdown will be conducted in Singapore is false, said the Singapore Police Force (SPF).

SPF wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Nov 18) morning: “The message, which claims that ‘Singapore national security lockdown will be conducted (sic) city wide borders…’, is completely false and totally irresponsible.”

It advised members of the public not to spread unsubstantiated information which may generate unnecessary public alarm.

The public has also been urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities.

The annual event will see the staging of five terror attack scenarios, including suicide bombers and a gunman assault, on Nov 18 and 23.

SINGAPORE: If you hear a loud explosion or shots fired at the outskirts of the Central Business District before noon on Wednesday (Nov 18), do not panic.

It is all part of an anti-terror exercise, codenamed Exercise Heartbeat, an annual event by the Singapore Police Force with the aim of enhancing emergency preparedness and joint response during a crisis.

This is the seventh time the exercise has been held.

A simulated chemical agent attack will be held at One Marina Boulevard (OMB) at 9am. Police say chemical attacks are not visible to the naked eye, but the effects of the gas on people will be seen.

The next scenario will be an explosion of an IED – an improvised explosive device – and gunman situation at Esplanade Park.

In total, five terror attack scenarios will be role played across two days, Nov 18 and 23.
