Engine fire reports, after emergency landing in Melbourne, appear to be false.
Reports of an engine fire on a Malaysia Airlines flight from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur – which saw the plane turn around – may have been a false alarm.
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) said the flight was forced to return to Melbourne after a fire.
More than 300 passengers, who are safe, were estimated to be onboard the plane on Friday.
But according to Melbourne radio station 3AW, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau has inspected the plane and found no evidence of a fire.
The airline themselves took to Twitter on Friday afternoon with a similar version of events.

MELBOURNE — A Malaysia Airlines Airbus A330 plane reportedly dumped fuel today (June 12) before making an emergency landing at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport due to an engine failure, according to reports by Australian media.
Flight MH148 appeared to circle the airport a number of times before landing, said news.com.au. The Guardian said the plane made the emergency landing after experiencing engine failure shortly after take-off.
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade has confirmed it is assisting with an incident at the airport but said it could not provide further details, according to news.com.au.
The airport was said to have stopped all arrivals to the airport to make way for the plane, while other flights were delayed or diverted.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH148 had to make an emergency landing reportedly due to engine fire.
The flight, bound for Kuala Lumpur, made the emergency landing at the Melbourne Airport, reported Australian news site news.com.au.
Airbus A330, which took off from the Melbourne airport, had circled the airport several times before landing.
Earlier, an Airservices Australia spokesperson confirmed with The Guardian that the plane had experienced engine failure.
“Something occurred when the engine went full-throttle, and as is standard in such situations the pilot has taken the plane out over the bay to dump fuel, and it will land shortly,” he had said.
