KL eyes ban on repeat traffic violators from S’pore after Porsche crash sparks outcry http://shar.es/10MiFa
The Malaysian authorities have been working on a system to blacklist repeat traffic offenders from Singapore and block them from driving into Malaysia, an official in Kuala Lumpur said, following a car crash that killed Hong Leong scion Kwek Kon Chun on Sunday.
While the cause of the crash is still unknown, it has sparked an outcry against Singaporean drivers, who are accused of speeding recklessly on Malaysian roads.
The new electronic system aims to rein in drivers from the Republic who flout rules with no fear of punishment, Road Safety Department chief Tam Weng Wah told The Straits Times on Tuesday.
According to the Auditor-General’s Report 2013, Singapore-registered vehicles topped the list of foreign vehicles that were issued summonses between 2011 and last year, with about 84,000 of the 120,000 summonses issued going to Singapore vehicles.
Of the 84,000 summonses issued, however, Singaporeans paid just 12,000 – or less than 15 per cent – leaving RM7.63 million (S$3 million) still due.

KUALA LUMPUR: A love triangle is believed to be at the centre of the incident involving a booby trap utilising a hand grenade in Kampung Baru Subang, Sungai Buloh on Saturday.
Sungai Buloh police chief Supt Junaidi Bujang said they believed this was the case after questioning a former soldier, aged 50, following his arrest at the Pahlawan 2 Apartments in Taman Tun Perak here at 9pm Saturday.
He said the suspect was unhappy that his wife was seeing someone else – the cousin of the person whose car was damaged in the incident.
“The suspect accused the cousin of running away with his wife, and police believe it was him who was the target,” he said.
He added that police also seized two handphones and two cars, a Myvi and a Honda Civic, from the suspect to assist investigations.

Lucky escape for manager as grenade explodes under car
A close-up of the Toyota Vios after a hand grenade exploded.
SUNGAI BULOH: A restaurant manager had a lucky escape when a hand grenade blew up under her car as she was driving out of her house in Kampung Baru Subang Saturday morning.
The 40-year-old woman escaped without injuries but is traumatised, said Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Junaidi Bujang.
He said the woman, driving a Toyota Vios, was exiting her house in Jalan 4D at about 6.45am, when the bottom of her car hit a rock that was in the middle of the dirt driveway outside her house.
“There was a hand grenade underneath the rock. We know it is a grenade because we found the pin near the scene.
“We believe someone placed the 12kg rock over the explosive to put pressure on it, so it will only explode when the rock is moved.
“When the car knocked the rock, the grenade exploded underneath the car. It caused the back bumper to collapse and ball bearings ripped holes all over the car,” Supt Junaidi told The Star at the scene.

THE TIME I FELL INTO A DRAIN AT SCHOOL
IN 2007, I WAS 57 AND STILL ‘YOUNG AND SPRIGHTLY’. I was a full time teacher then, at Shen Jai High School, Ipoh.
I still had good eyesight and balance. That year, I was in the Discipline Dept, and that meant having a say in running the Prefects.
They were good workers when it came to collecting litter. Still, there were little pieces they missed, and I enjoyed showing them how to detect litter that had got into the earth from long months of neglect.
One morning, when the prefects had left, I crossed a large deep drain. Suddenly, I slipped and fell inside!
Oh, the excruciating pain on my left thigh! It hurt so much that I could not even say, “Ouch.” I could only groan quietly until the pain subsided.
No one had seen me fall into the drain, so no one was around to help me. I was thankful. I would have been too ashamed to have been seen lying on my side inside the drain!
I would have been the brunt of jokes among my colleagues and the students!
Also, I was grateful that the drain was absolutely dry.
I waited and waited, and when the pain had been sufficiently reduced, I limped back to the office.
You may be sure that I no longer leap drains.

The incident occurred at 7.50am when Ruhimah Juandi, 51, had just come back to her employer’s house after buying nasi lemak from a stall.
“I bought the nasi lemak for myself and the 80-year-old woman that I take care of as everyone else had gone out,” she said at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital (HTJ) here yesterday.
“When I came back from the stall, which is just 50m away from the house, I took the nasi lemak inside the house and came out to clean the floor.
“Suddenly, two large dogs came straight at me. I tried to ward them off with a water hose but the dogs bit me and I fell.
“I could not get up as the dogs had pinned me down and kept biting me as if I was their meal.”
Ruhimah said part of her scalp, along with her hair, was bitten off and her left arm was broken. Her scalp, which was carried off by one of the dogs, was found behind the house.
Nasi lemak seller Hoosni Anuar Hamid, 44, from whom Ruhimah had bought her breakfast, saw the attack. He got into his car and tried to ram the dogs.

Mass hysteria breaks out at secondary school
KUALA LUMPUR: Students of SMK Pusat Bandar Puchong (1) here got a scare on Friday following a supposed bout of mass hysteria at the school. Although the scene seemed calm when reporters were present and teachers remained mum over what had actually transpired, police personnel were seen at the school compound. … Parent Datin Rozita Haron said she was among the parents who helped to calm the students. “Some students said that this had been happening since Monday, but today was the worst, with students of all races, both boys and girls. “I kept asking a student why she was sobbing. “She replied that she ‘liked being here’ and didn’t want to ‘go back’; I thought that was a strange thing to say,” she said. Morning blaze: Fire fighters containing the fire from spreading to the ground floor of the historical building
BUKIT MERTAJAM: The town’s oldest supermarket in Jalan Pasar was razed in a pre-dawn fire. The 5am blaze, however, was put out before it could damage the wet market, located on the ground floor of the two-storey building. More than 125 fire fighters from five stations in Bukit Mertajam, Perda, Prai and volunteers from 13 voluntary fire brigades controlled the blaze from spreading. Penang Fire and Rescue Department operations superintendent M.
