“I really salute ini budak-budak baju merah. Every time ada disaster you boleh nampak dia orang. They come in quietly, do their work, and then quietly they leave. No fanfare, no TV3,” komen seorang bukan Melayu yang kini tersebar luas dalam media sosial.

Malaysian Insider
For Umno, when it rains, it pours and floods
COMMENTARY BY THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER
December 06, 2013
Multimedia and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek checking the flood situation in Kemaman. – The Malaysian Insider pic, December 6, 2013.
As it rains, pours and floods in the East Coast, several towns are being cut off and thousands are being evacuated to relief centres by civil defence and army personnel.
Yet in Malaysia, what is important is the politician for the photo-op either to inquire their well-being or to hand over aid. This time, none of that was happening in Terengganu or Pahang, which is Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s home state.
There is some disquiet why Umno politicians are not at the scene – perhaps due to the low numbers being evacuated compared to the more than 100,000 that sought shelter and relief in 2006 when Johor was inundated. Only Multimedia and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek has been on the ground to assist in relief works.
…
For Najib, the floods are hitting Pahang just as his Umno gathers for its annual general assembly. Thousands, including all leaders, are huddled in Umno’s Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) to listen to speeches, shop and enjoy the leaders’ hospitality at the various brunches, luncheons, teas and dinners.
None of them are in Kemaman or Kuantan, among the hardest hit towns where residents are appealing for help and wondering why Najib and his cohorts are crowing about popular votes and exhorting the party to represent the people when they are in dire need of help.

Banjir Kuantan: Detik Katrina Najib dan Muhyi – Sakmongkol
Other than the horrific loss of life and property which Hurricane Katrina wreaked on parts of America in 2005, the severity of the natural disaster was eclipsed by the monumental insensitivity of Bush Junior.
Takkah dia tahu bagaimana hendak menjawab soalan?
Setelah satu hari Kuantan banjir saya mendapat sms daripada seorang mangsa banjir – Di SMK Bkt Ranging – air, letrik xda, mknan x cukup, yb xda.

165 Tenggelu folk evacuated as water rises
MERSING: For Tenggelu mukim chief Mohd Adam Ahmad, the call came at around 5am.
“It was shocking. I rushed out, knocking on doors of the villagers to warn them about the rising water,” he said, adding that police and Civil Defence Department officers accompanied him in alerting the 165 residents of the flood.
“It took us about six hours to evacuate everyone,” he said. “We had to help the elderly and small children,” he said, adding that by the time the last villager was brought to a relief centre, the water was knee deep.
“We have experienced floods before, but you just never get used to it,” he said of the seasonal floods that began to hit parts of Johor and Pahang with the start of the northeast monsoon.
