PAS WON BY A SMALLER MAJORITY.

IT LOOKS LIKE MANY CHINESE WERE PERSUADED BY THE PROMISES FROM BN-UMNO, AND BY THE HUGE SUM GIVEN TO CHINESE SCHOOLS THERE!

“Barisan scored victories in Simpang Tiga, which has the highest number of Chinese voters (377)…The coalition won by a 397-vote majority in Simpang Tiga.”

Gerakan: BN’s Chinese support increased 60-70pct

12:09PM Nov 5, 2013

SG LIMAU Yesterday’s Sungai Limau by-election shows that Chinese support for the BN has increased, says deputy Gerakan chief Cheah Soon Hai.

Utusan Malaysia toda quotes Cheah as saying that BN’s support from the Chinese community had increased by between 60 and 70 percent.

This was observed from the wresting back of three Chinese areas, namely Sungai Limau, Kabu 10 and Simpang Tiga, by the BN this time.

“We lost these areas in the 13th general election due to the Chinese but this time, these three areas returned to BN’s fold,” Cheah is quoted as saying.

*WHY ARE THE CHINESE IMPORTANT TO MUKHRIZ?

There are 1,842 Chinese voters in Sg Limau, representing about 6 percent of the electorate. If BN is to score a victory in this PAS stronghold, it will need a sizable swing of Chinese voters.

*WHAT DO THE CHINESE IN SG LIMAU, KEDAH THINK OF DR MAHATHIR AND MUKHRIZ?

“Mukhriz made those statements about the Chinese probably because he was misled by his father, (former premier) Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Mukhriz himself is a good man,” said padi trader Ho Siang Huat.

DAP: First Umno, now MCA’s blackmailing Chinese
1:14PM Nov 3, 2013

SG LIMAU After Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir had backtracked from his threat of refusing to help the Chinese community for their lack of support, MCA appear to have taken over the task of threatening them, said DAP national vice chairperson Teresa Kok.

Kok pointed to a report in China Press today where MCA president Chua Soi Lek said the government allocation of RM1 million to SJK(C) Aik Min which only has 15 students as a “huge test” for the Chinese community.

Chua reportedly said that if the Chinese community accepted the money but refuses to back BN in tomorrow’s Sungai Limau by-election, they cannot expect to get more allocations in future.

“A fair government will never punish the voters and what Chua said is no different from what Mukhriz said before – that the BN government’s assistance to Chinese schools is hinged on their support for BN.

“Chinese voters in Sungai Limau state constituency must not succumb to such politics of threat, revenge and discrimination of the BN government,” said Kok in a statement today.

Chinese await Mukhriz’s ‘big announcement’

SG LIMAU Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir’s alleged anti-Chinese statement may have caused waves in the media, but the grassroots in Sungai Limau remains largely unmoved.

For the padi farmers, for example, what is of more concern is the low padi price of RM102 per 100kg offered by Bernas, compared to RM147 offered by Thailand.

“We will for vote anyone who can help us sell our padi at Thailand’s price,” said padi trader Ho Siang Huat, 53, in Dulang Besar.

On whether the Chinese community is affected by media reports on Mukhriz, who yesterday, made a turnaround and said he would now support them, Ho said the MB was probably misinformed initially.

“Mukhriz made those statements about the Chinese probably because he was misled by his father, (former premier) Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Mukhriz himself is a good man,” Ho said.
