Top level pressure stops ‘live’ debate?
DAP asks if there is top level pressure on Astro not to air the Lim Guan Eng versus Dr Chua Soi Lek debate live.
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP has chided television companies, namely satellite television operator Astro, for its refusal to air live the debate between Lim Guan Eng and Dr Chua Soi Lek.
DAP Youth chief Anthony Loke suspected that top level pressure forced Astro to delay the telecast of the second debate between the DAP secretary-general and MCA president.

No live telecast, but Soi Lek-Guan Eng debate organisers deny censorship
KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 — Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and Lim Guan Eng’s highly-anticipated second debate this Sunday afternoon will not be broadcast live, the organiser Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (Asli) said today.
The two-hour long debate between the MCA president and DAP secretary-general will only be aired at 11pm on Astro AEC and Astro Awani later in the day, with Chinese and Bahasa subtitles respectively.
However, Asli’s senior vice president Ng Yeen Seen denied censorship in the move, saying it was to “enable more people to see the debate as they’ll be at home at night”.
She also added that Sundays were often a “family day” and the public may be out doing sports during the debate which will take place from 2.30pm to 4.30 pm.

Debate rages over Lim-Chua rematch
Some politicians and analysts are skeptical whether the debate will bring about the desired effect or merely become another political charade.
By Alan Ting
KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng are going to engage in another debate, on July 8, to try to convince listeners which party’s policies better benefit the community.
Even as the debate provides another platform for the two leaders to reach out to the audience and deliver their messages, some politicians and analysts are skeptical whether the debate will bring about the desired effect or merely become another political charade.

A little known MCA politician has become an unwitting ‘star’ online after the conclusion of the debate between MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng yesterday.
Jessie Ooi (right), a Selangor MCA activist, has become an internet sensation of sorts because of the manner in which she posed a question to Lim, as well as its content.
