BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police are tracking down a group of men playing carbide cannon at Jalan Permatang Rawa, here, after a video footage of them went viral on social media yesterday.

The group received criticism from netizens, who described their action as dangerous.

Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafee Abd Samad said based on the two-minute and 20-second video recording, it showed the group playing the carbide cannon by the road side, creating unnecessary noise to nearby residents.

“Yesterday, police detected a video footage of a group of adult men playing with a carbide cannon, which went viral on social media site Twitter.

“We are conducting further investigations into the video footage, including tracing some of the men involved in the video,” he said today.

Shafee advised the public against playing with carbide cannon in conjunction with the forthcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration as it was an offence under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
