Pertubuhan Minda dan Sosial Prihatin Malaysia president Ramesh Rao has pleaded not guilty to a charge based on his tweet that falsely linked the SRC International trial judge to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He previously claimed that Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, who ruled that former premier Najib Abdul Razak was guilty of seven charges related to the RM42 million SRC International case, was Mahathir’s grandnephew.
The charge was read at the Taiping Sessions Court this morning under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.
Bail was set at RM6,000 with one surety.
Sessions judge Zulhelmy Hassan fixed March 1 for further mention of the case.
Lawyer Shamsher Singh Thind appeared for Ramesh, while Sariza Ismail prosecuted.

Pertubuhan Minda dan Sosial Prihatin Malaysia NGO president Ramesh Rao will be charged at the Taiping Sessions Court on his controversial tweet regarding the High Court judge who presided over former premier Najib Abdul Razak’s SRC International case last year.
A source confirmed with Malaysiakini that he will be slapped with one charge under Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998 on Wednesday.
“He will be charged at the Taiping Sessions Court at 9am on Feb 10,” said the source.
This came six months after Bukit Aman’s Classified Criminal Investigation Department launched a probe against him after a report on the matter was lodged by former Bersatu member Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rahman on July 30 last year.
On July 28, 2020, judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali ruled that Najib was guilty of seven charges related to the RM42 million from SRC International case.
The charges concerned abuse of power, criminal breach of trust (CBT) and money laundering.
On the same day, Ramesh, who is seen as Najib’s staunch supporter, via a tweet, claimed that Nazlan is former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s grandnephew.
Mahathir’s daughter Marina had dismissed Ramesh’s allegation as untrue.
“We should be flattered that they think such a learned judge is related to us but he’s not,” she said.
