WHY hide your wealth, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli asked Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan who allegedly tried to hide his RM10 million remittance to buy a flat in London more than a decade ago.
Rafizi said following the revelation, many Umno leaders have rushed to defend the Barisan Nasional candidate in the Rantau by-election by saying that “Tok Mat (as Mohamad is fondly known) was a rich guy” as he had previously held several corporate posts.
“So, if he is really wealthy, why was Tok Mat so afraid about people knowing about it (fund transfer) that he used an illegal channel?” he said while campaigning on behalf of Pakatan Harapan’s Dr S. Streram yesterday.
Mohamad used a money changer to remit the funds and Rafizi said there are only two possibilities why the former would use that method to transfer funds – either because the sum was above the limit allowed by Bank Negara or the money was not his.
“If Tok Mat is still keen to become the prime minister, it is better that Tok Mat be honest from now on, why he transferred the RM10 million in 2007 in secret, while he is a rich person.”

RANTAU POLLS | The Gatco Settlers Action Committee has urged Rantau voters to not cast their votes for BN candidate Mohamad Hasan in this Saturday’s by-election.
“Mohamad is a liar. I urge Rantau voters to not choose him,” committee secretary John Cantius Francis told a press conference at the Pakatan Harapan operations room in the constituency today.
According to Francis, when Mohamad was the menteri besar of Negeri Sembilan, he failed to give the Gatco settlers – many of whom were ardent BN supporters – the eight acres (3.2ha) of land they were initially promised, not the four acres (1.6ha) they were later told they were going to receive.
“On June 15, 2015, abut 170 Gatco settlers agreed with Mohamad’s insistence to receive four acres of land,” he said.
“A huge ceremony was organised by the Negeri Sembilan government then. My question is, have the 170 settlers who agreed with Mohamad’s idea received the promised land? Not yet.
“These are Mohamad’s true colours. He lied not only us, but to his own supporters.”
Francis further challenged Mohamad to hold true to the pledge made by his predecessor Mohd Isa Samad to hand over the eight acres promised in the 1990s.
“Do remember that there are at least 130 Malay settlers in the Gatco estate who are also affected by this issue,” he said.
The settlers are part of the Great Alonioners Trading Corporation Bhd (Gatco).
The company was incorporated in 1977 by the National Union of Plantation Workers (NUPW) to facilitate a land development scheme in Bahau for its members.
A total of 430 families took part in the scheme, comprising 200 Indians, 120 Malays and 30 Chinese, and formed Kampung Gatco or Kampung Serampang Indah.
The current settlers had paid RM7,600 each as a deposit to settle on allocated plots of the land as part of the development scheme.
However, the scheme failed and Gatco eventually wound up. The company’s liquidators sold the land to Thamarai Holdings in 2006, triggering the present tussle.
In Oct 2017, the Court of Appeal ruled in favour of Thamarai Holdings.
In April last year, the Federal Court upheld the verdict, ruling the settlers had no locus standi to initiate a suit against the developer.

RANTAU POLLS | Former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Mohamad Hasan says there was no wrongdoing in his 2008 transfer of RM10 million to London via a money changer.
He stressed that Negeri Sembilan Legislative Assembly speaker Zulkefly Mohamad Omar was free to bring up the matter again to the MACC.
“The MACC has investigated this, so it’s up to the authorities.
“I’ve not been found guilty. It’s just that I transferred money through a money changer.
“There was no abuse of power, nor did I do something bad. I just bought an apartment in London,” the BN candidate for the Rantau by-election told a press conference today.
At a ceramah last night, Zulkefly questioned why the MACC had not taken action against Mohamad, who allegedly broke banking laws with the RM10 million transfer when serving as the menteri besar.
At the time, the Attorney-General’s Chambers did not take any action against Mohamad, opting to go after the money changer instead.
Felcra allegations
Mohamad also rebutted allegations raised by activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin on a Felcra deal.
Badrul Hisham, better known as Chegubard (above), alleged last night that Mohamad had signed over some 2,500ha of land to the agency with no land title granted nor premium payments made.
The move is said to have cost Negeri Sembilan millions of ringgit.
Badrul Hisham also claimed that RM30.65 million in proceeds from Felcra meant for the eKasih welfare fund had gone missing.
He said that he learned of these allegations after obtaining documents from district officers and state government staff.
Responding to the purportedly missing eKasih funds, Mohamad told Badrul Hisham to trace the money trail.
“Surely the money didn’t disappear. The money trail is easy to check (to see) where the money went,” he said. “Definitely not to my account.”
The former menteri besar also explained why no land title or premium was issued in the Felcra land deal.
He said it was his administration’s policy not to surrender land to corporations looking to develop oil palm estates.
Instead, he said, the land would only be leased for 21 years – to avoid a repeat of past situations, where the state government lost its land in the case of joint ventures with private entities going south.
“The land has no title, meaning it is not pawned off to anyone,” he explained.
“At the same time, the state government doesn’t issue a premium because there is no title. They (corporations) only pay rent for the land to the state government.”

Not so fast, Mat Hassan. You still haven’t satisfactorily accounted to the public over your illegal transfer of RM10 million to London in 2008 through a money changer.
Salamath Ali Money Changer Sdn Bhd, which conducted the RM10 million illegal transaction, had its licence revoked on 26th Oct, 2009 for having contravened Section 30 of the Money Changing Act 1998, but Hassan has escaped untouched, despite being glaringly involved in this illegal money transaction and failure to explain the source of this RM10 million cash – after being dubiously exonerated by the then AG who was under the thumb of Najib.
Since Hassan had remained dumb throughout this episode, he should now break his silence and publicly declare his position on these allegations.
Meanwhile, MACC should move in to investigate possible offences under the Money Changing Act 1998 and the MACC Act 2009.”

SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan says that he has been forced to liquidate some of his assets as he no longer has an income.
“If you really want to know what I own now I can tell you that my assets have reduced very much.
“I have been forced to sell my land, house and car because I do not have an income apart from a pension and some allowances,” said Barisan Nasional candidate for the Rantau seat.
Mohamad was asked to comment on a statement made by PKR secretary general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution during a ceramah Monday night, who asked how much assets Mohamad probably owned.
Mohamad also said those who were keen to know how much assets he owned were free to check with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission or with the state secretariat.
“The state exco, senior officials and I last declared our assets in 2017 when we were in the government.
“If you really need to know what I have, you can check with them,” he told reporters at his ops room in Kg Tanjung in Rantau.
