KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — The Armed Forces clarified today that any escorts for former defence minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein have had their services terminated following Barisan Nasional’s defeat in the May 9 polls.

In a statement released today, it said it has started investigating claims that three Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) staff are still serving Hishammuddin and will take appropriate action over the matter.

Hishammuddin: I have given employment offers to Armed Forces personnel protecting me

PETALING JAYA: The three Armed Forces personnel currently protecting Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein have been given offers of employment, the former defence minister said on Saturday (Aug 25).

He however added that if the three accept, they must resign from the Armed Forces with immediate effect.

“They are so close to my family and I, having served us for so many years,” said Hishammuddin.

He added that the two Navy special operations force (Paskal) officers and the Army commando working as his bodyguards were part of his security detail for a temporary period.

Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu has ordered a probe into claims that three military special forces personnel are still working as escorts for former defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein.

“I have ordered an immediate probe to be carried out, and appropriate action will be taken if there is any breach of any current practices or regulations,” Mohamad said in a statement.

Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that two Navy special operations force officers and a commando were still working as escorts for Hishammuddin.

Sources: Military special forces still serving Hishammuddin

EXCLUSIVE | Three military special forces personnel are still serving former defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein as escorts, according to sources.

Sources in the Armed Forces and Defence Ministry told Malaysiakini that two of these officers are with the Navy’s special operation forces (Paskal).

The two officers are aged 37 and 41, and are still on active duty. They are supposed to serve in the armed forces until 2020 and 2021 respectively.

Sources claim that Hishammuddin also has a third armed forces escort, a commando, still serving him.

Details about the third escort are scant, but sources claimed the commando was an individual seen in a group photo Hishammuddin tweeted this week.

The 41-year-old Paskal officer, meanwhile, was photographed accompanying the former minister on June 30.

The three of them have reportedly been attached to Hishammuddin since he became defence minister in 2013.

A source in the armed forces said the trio were supposed to have ceased serving Hishammuddin after the Pakatan Harapan government took over.

However, the source claimed the escorts are now pulling double pay from both Hishammuddin and the Armed Forces.

“They are Armed Forces, they can’t simply work for anyone but they are working with Hishammuddin, not just part-time, but full-time,” the source said.
