DAP MP & HUMAN RESOURCE MINISTER
M. KULASEGARAN’S TAMIL SPEECH TRANSLATED WORD BY WORD by E.S. SHANKAR! UTUSAN/UMNO SHAMEFUL, DISGRACEFUL TRANSLATION/SPINDOCTORING EXPOSED! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzkyIYrwxbM&feature=youtu.be

Below is my word by word translation of DAP MP and Minister for Human Resources M. Kulasegaran’s video-recorded speech which Utusan deliberately mistranslated and added in words that were never uttered by him.

I challenge any Indian, Utusan, UMNO or anyone else to refute my translation and/or infer from this that Kula had insulted the Malays by referring to them as ‘pendatang’ (immigrants), claimed that Indians had settled here earlier than the Malays or that this was their ‘Tanah Air Ku’.

The following words and phrases mentioned by Utusan are not referred to even once in Kula’s speech:

1. Malay
2. Kita dan Melayu adalah sama taraf (Indians and Malays are equal)
3. Hindu, kaum pertama diMalaysia (Hindu/Indians were the first race in Malaysia)
4. Tanah Air Kita (our homeland)

Note too the context of Kula’s speech. He was talking to Tamils at a Hindu religious event at Nilai. He was clearly referring to the connection between the Bujang Valley Indians/Hindus and the current generation of Indians/Hindus. MPs like Kula have been also fighting for many years for thousands born in Malaysia who have been denied full citizenship rights and have existed in a stateless limbo.

Kula’s apology yesterday was not an admission of any racist speech. All that he said was that he was withdrawing the word ‘pendatang’ (immigrant) as Utusan and its scurrilous political master, UMNO, were spindoctoring his speech for political capital After all, there are 2 by-elections round the corner and UMNO has only one strategy in fighting ‘buy elections”, by playing the corrupt cash is king, race, religious bigotry and Ketuanan cars!

THE TRANSLATION FROM TAMIL:
“Because it is not easy to spread our religion.
You told us first about our history.
Many people in our country have forgotten.
If we ask about how many years are our historical connection, the history books say 130 years, 120 years, our connection and when we came here.
It’s not true.
When did we first arrive here? 2.500 years ago.
What proof exists?
If you go to Bujang Valley, all the proof is there.
Temples are there. Old, old temples. All buried.
As our history goes back to then, they were the ‘pendatang’. We were not the ‘pendatang’.
Them and us are the same.
However, today we have forgotten all that.
You ask all the students how long has been our Hindu connection?
(They will reply) one hundred years. That is what our teacher said.
We must knock that teacher on his head. Tell them that I said so.
Our connection, it has been limited in this country. That’s the extent of what we learnt (in school).
If you go to Bujang Valley, it is very clear, understandable proof. About our connectivity, we must tell our people and the general public. There is no difference between them and us.
Our right to stay here, this is our motherland.
As your leader said, this is (also) our motherland. There is none other.
If you take 2,500 years ago, how would it have been?
We have every right.
Don’t give up. It’s my….”

GEORGE TOWN: Despite apologising over the ‘pendatang’ (immigrant) remark made during his speech in Nilai last week, Penang Umno Youth today demanded for action to be taken against Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran.

Speaking to newsmen after lodging a report at the northeast district police headquarters this afternoon, state Umno Youth vice chief Anuar Faisal Yahaya said Kulasegaran should face the full brunt of the law as what he had uttered was seditious in nature.

“Just because he apologised, this does not mean that there is no need for investigation to be carried out or action to be taken.

“As a minister, he should be careful with his words, and should not be seen as issuing racist or seditious remarks,” he said.

Anuar said if Kulasegaran is simply let off the hook by apologising, then such an incident will recur in the future.

“We do not want the act of apologising after making racist remarks to become a culture in our society since it can trigger widespread anger.

Excerpts from:

FACT CHECK | Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran came under fire earlier yesterday for reportedly calling Malays “pendatang” (immigrants), and that Indians were the original inhabitants of Malaya.

Kulasegaran has since denied this, saying an Utusan Malaysia report on this was slanderous, and that a Tamil-language speech of his had been deliberately taken out of context to stir racial tensions.
.

The video, posted by website MyNewsHub, has been verified as accurate and unmanipulated by the minister’s press secretary.

However, the officer said the video is only an excerpt of an 18-minute speech, and that the reports by Utusan and MyNewsHub were fabricated.

Malaysiakini is attempting to get a full recording of the speech.
.

The analysis of what was said is as follows:

What Utusan reported

Paragraph 1:

Naib Pengerusi DAP, M Kula Segaran mendakwa Melayu merupakan golongan pendatang di negara ini sementara penduduk asal merupakan penganut agama Hindu” (DAP vice-chairperson M Kula Segaran claims Malays are pendatang in this country, while the original inhabitants were Hindu).

Paragraphs 4-5:

Many people have forgotten, Hindus have been in this country for 2,500 years. What’s the evidence? If you go to the Bujang Valley, all the evidence is there. There are many old temples found there.

(When we were the first ones here, therefore, they (Malays) are the pendatang. The Malays and us are of the same level. This is our motherland!)

Note: MyNewsHub provided a transcript that is similar to the quotes published by Utusan.

Kulasegaran’s explanation

“In a Tamil-language event, I did not mention once about Malays. Hence, the accusation that I called the Malays pendatang is pure slander and a lie.

“What I explained in that event was that Indians had been in Malaya since 2,500 years ago. Hinduism was brought by Indians to Malaya. Archaeological finds in the Bujang Valley, especially the finding of Sungai Batu in Kedah, have proven this.

“In light of that, I believe it is unfair to call Indians pendatang based on those historical facts.

M’kini‘s translation of Kulasegaran’s speech from video excerpt

“A lot of people, when asked about our history, (they say our) history dates back 120-130 years.

“Not true. When we first came here (it was) 2,500 years ago. The evidence is in Bujang Valley. There are temples there… buried.

“They were the pendatang, we were not pendatang. They and us are the same.

“If you ask a lot of our students, they will say (our history is) 100 years…’because my teacher told me that’

“I say, knock that teacher’s head. You can quote me on that. We have the right to stay here, this is our motherland.

“We have all the rights to stay here as they do. Don’t give up. We must tell our people that…” (video ends).
