Lee Chong Wei denies being co-owner of Raj Banana Leaf restaurant
PETALING JAYA: National shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei has denied that he is a co-owner of the Raj Banana Leaf restaurant in Bangsar that was shut down due to unhygienic food practices.
“No no no. Bukan saya (Not me),” he told The Star when contacted about this on Wednesday (May 30).
However, a company search with the Companies Commission of Malaysia revealed Lee as one of the three directors of the company which owns the restaurant, InterCompass Sdn Bhd.
.
Raj’s Banana Leaf later clarified that Lee is not linked to the restaurant.
“While we acknowledge that Datuk Lee Chong Wei was previously a director of the company, he had resigned from his directorship prior to the said incident and he was in any event not involved in the day-to-day operations of our restaurants,” said the restaurant in a Facebook post on Wednesday (May 30).

Bangsar banana leaf restaurant to shut down after filthy dishwashing incident

THE management of Raj’s Banana Leaf, an Indian banana leaf restaurant in Bangsar, has apologised for the hygiene at its outlet, after staff were filmed washing plates with dirty water.
The management issued the apology hours after the video went viral today, but did not say when the incident happened.
However, news portal Twentytwo13 reported Kuala Lumpur mayor Mhd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz as saying that the restaurant will be shut down tomorrow.
“Gila punya restaurant (Crazy restaurant). I will instruct my health and environment department officers to seal the premise tomorrow,” said Amin.
“It will remain closed until they adhere to all of our regulations.”
The restaurant blamed new staff who were caught washing plates in what appeared to be the back lane of the restaurant.
The workers rinsed and washed the plates with dirty, stagnant water.
