Ex-IGP suspects ‘hidden agenda’ behind Shafee’s RM9.5m allegations

Geraldine Tong

Former inspector-general of police (IGP) Musa Hassan suspects an agenda behind the allegations that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had paid prominent lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah RM9.5 million.

Musa was replying to media questions about possible links between the allegations made by whistleblower website Sarawak Report, and jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim applying to set aside his conviction for Sodomy II based on those allegations.

“I am suspicious. There might be certain interests and agenda here, which can bring ruin or chaos to the country,” he said at a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.

Ex-IGP: Najib’s account was closed, so how can Shafee be paid?

Ipohcrite: For a former police chief, Musa Hassan comes across as an amateur sleuth when explaining that it was not possible for lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah to be paid from PM Najib Razak’s account.

But then, he was never much of a police officer to begin with. Even the court found him to be an unreliable witness in a past case.

Kim Quek: Najib’s AmBank account that was closed on Aug 30, 2013 (which received US$681 million from the Tanore Finance account at Falcon Bank in Singapore and returned US$650 million to the same source on Aug 30, 2013) was numbered 2112022009694.

Whereas, the AmBank account through which Najib allegedly paid RM9.5 million to Shafee in September 2013 and February 2014 is numbered 2112022011906, which is an account that received funds from SRC, a different bank account entirely.

Nice try, Musa.

Odin Tajué: Musa, you claimed that you had been slandered (in being accused of receiving RM5 million from former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad).

Question: Why have you not sued the alleged slanderer for defamation?

RM5 million at the material time was a lot of money, and accusing you of having received such a sum for abetting in the framing of former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim equalled to removing much of whatever marks you might have had, if any at all, for your character.

Between you and Kim Quek, one is inclined to trust the latter. He has pointed out that you were wrong. How now, Mr Former IGP-cum-Mattress Carrier?

Ex-IGP : ‘s account was closed, so how can Shafee be paid?

Alyaa Azhar

Former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan has questioned the validity of Sarawak Report‘s allegation that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak paid prominent lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah RM9.5 million.
.
Last week, Sarawak Report claimed to have sighted documents from investigators which purportedly showed that Najib paid Shafee from the same account into which SRC funds were transferred.

Shafee had acted as chief prosecutor in Anwar Ibrahim’s Sodomy II case when the matter was heard in the higher courts.
.
He initially cited a Malaysiakini report dated “Aug 8, 2015” but later clarified that it was an Aug 15 report titled “US$650m from Najib’s account sent abroad“, in which it was mentioned that the prime minister’s Ambank account was closed on Aug 30, 2013.

“So how can the RM9.5 million be paid to the lawyer if the account was already closed? I think this claim is not true as the payment was (alleged to have been) made on Sept 11, 2013 and Feb 17, 2014,” Musa said in a press conference in Petaling Jaya.

However, the special task force on revenue recovery on July 9, 2015 revealed that Najib had at least two accounts in Ambank Islamic – the other was closed on March 9, 2015.

PETALING JAYA – Tan Sri Musa Hassan emphasized that the allegations on Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah being paid RM9.5 million by the Prime Minister is not true.

Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) questioned the wild allegations made by a London-based portal, the Sarawak Report as there were contradicting information given by the portal, especially when it comes to the timeframe the money was transferred.

“Based on Malaysiakini’s report, the 1MDB’s money was transferred on 8 August 2015. However, the account has been closed on the 30 August 2013. How can one transfer RM9.6 million from a closed account to the attorney?” asked Musa in a media conference in Petaling Jaya today.

He also explained that an attorney will receive legal fee payment from his client and it can be confirmed by the receipt from the legal firm.
